Habitat Specialist Internship

Locations : North Platte, Nebraska
Application Deadline : September 8th
Anticipated Start and End Dates : October 13th through December 18th with flexibility                                                    

Salary Information : $22 per hour. 32-40 hours per week.

Duties : Work in a joint capacity with Pheasants Forever, Inc. (PF), in the Loess Canyons of Nebraska removing scattered Eastern Red Cedar. Activities may include hand cutting cedar trees with a variety of hand tools. Interns will work closely with multiple wildlife biologists assisting with various projects related to wildlife management.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities :

• Must be able to work effectively with private landowners, governmental agency staff and conservation organization representatives.
• Ability to work independently with little supervision.
• Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.
• Must be in physical shape to operate hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment such as chainsaws, loppers and brush cutters. As assigned by crew leader.
• Perform equipment and tool maintenance to ensure readiness and accountability of assigned gear.
• Complete daily work logs, time reports and treatment accomplishment records.

• Must be able to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.

• Valid driver’s license required with an acceptable driving record.
• Complete and comprehend all training as directed by supervisor(s).
• Abide by all company policies, rules and safety regulations as directed.
• Collect research data concerning tree cutting.

Training and Experience Guideline :
Any combination of training and/or experience that will enable the applicant to possess the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Applicant must be interested or possess a degree in wildlife management or closely related natural resources field.
