Location: Greater Chicago Work Type: Onsite | Relief Assignments Employment Type: Relief/Contract Pay Rate: Varies by assignment Contract Duration: Single-shift, recurring, short-term, and extended assignments Schedule: Flexible; weekday, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be available Compensation, schedule, caseload, responsibilities, and assignment duration will vary by opportunity. You’ll receive the applicable details before being presented to a veterinary practice or animal hospital. Assignments may include: Single-day or short-term shift coverage Vacation, leave, and scheduling-gap coverage Recurring part‑time assignments Extended contract engagements General practice, urgent care, emergency, or specialty settings About the Role We’re seeking experienced, compassionate Relief Veterinarians for temporary and ongoing opportunities throughout Florida. These assignments are ideal for veterinarians seeking greater schedule flexibility, supplemental income, or exposure to different clinical environments. We do more than fill the shifts currently available. We actively market your experience to veterinary practices and help you build a schedule aligned with your availability, interests, and professional goals. You’ll always have the opportunity to review an assignment’s location, schedule, compensation, caseload, and responsibilities before deciding whether it’s right for you. Key Responsibilities Provide high-quality medical care in accordance with professional and ethical standards Conduct examinations, diagnose medical conditions, and develop appropriate treatment plans Prescribe medications and recommend preventive care Perform routine procedures and surgeries when required by the assignment Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners Collaborate with veterinary technicians, assistants, and practice leadership Adapt to each practice’s workflows, technology, and clinical protocols Follow applicable veterinary regulations and established practice policies Required Skills and Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree from an accredited institution Active, unrestricted veterinary license in Illinois Current DEA registration when required by the assignment Professional liability coverage or willingness to obtain coverage Strong clinical judgment and decision-making abilities Clear, compassionate communication skills Ability to adapt quickly to different practice environments and workflows Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills Depending on the assignment, practices may seek experience in one or more of the following areas: Small-animal medicine General practice Urgent or emergency care Specialty veterinary medicine Routine procedures and surgery Why Consider Relief Work?
