CMTA, formerly known as AMA Group , is looking to fill our 2027 Summer Internship program in our New York City office. We are seeking students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related engineering field who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in plumbing and fire protection building systems design.

Location: New York City, NY
Schedule: In Office, Monday–Thursday; WFH on Friday
Level: Intern

Internship Program

The internship program is designed to provide students with a positive work and training experience aligned with their education and career goals. Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineering Interns will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands-on experience in both office and field settings while contributing to active client projects.

Key Responsibilities

As a Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineering Intern, you will:

• Assist engineers with plumbing and fire protection design tasks for building projects.
• Support the development and modification of engineering drawings.
• Assist with the design and layout of plumbing and fire protection systems.
• Attend and assist with field surveys and construction inspections.
• Assist with the review of contractor shop drawings.
• Develop an understanding of plumbing and fire protection systems and their application within building projects.
• Gain familiarity with applicable building, plumbing, and fire protection codes and standards.
• Conduct research and analysis to support project development.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and assist with reports and project updates.
• Collaborate with engineers and other project team members to support project goals and deadlines.
• Participate in training and learning opportunities to develop technical and professional skills.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related engineering field .
• Junior standing preferred.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, and/or Revit .
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
