Retail Associate

The Retail Associate helps set the tone for an exceptional visitor experience by warmly welcoming visitors, answering questions, providing recommendations on products, efficiently processing transactions at the Point-of-Sale, and sharing information on Orlando Science Center's Membership benefits. This role is responsible for engaging with guests, ensuring a positive experience, and maintaining a well-organized retail store.

Essential Functions

• Guest Engagement:
  1. Warmly greet and receive guests in a welcoming manner, building rapport through conversation and honest recommendations.
  2. Respond to customer needs by providing accurate and helpful information about products and the Science Center.
  3. Promote and educate visitors on the benefits of membership and current promotions.
• Sales and Customer Service:
  1. Drive sales through suggestive selling and sharing product knowledge.
  2. Use upselling techniques to meet sales goals and enhance the customer experience.
  3. Assist with the Point-of-Sale system, ensuring accurate and efficient transactions.
  4. Handle guest inquiries and resolve any issues promptly and courteously.
• Store Operations:
  1. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the retail store, restocking shelves as needed.
  2. Participate in physical inventory counts and assist with inventory management.
  3. Ensure the store is well-stocked and visually appealing before opening and after closing.
• Team Collaboration:
  1. Contribute positively and enthusiastically as part of the team-oriented department.
  2. Communicate effectively with team members and alert supervisory staff of potential problems or opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
2. Experience: 1-2 years of retail or hospitality experience, 1-2 years of cash handling experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Point of Sales applications.
• Retail, customer service or hospitality experience preferred.
• Exceptional time management skills, organization skills, and high attention to detail.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to remain in a stationary position.
• Ascends/descends stairs throughout the museum.
• Ascends/descends ladders or other equipment to perform various tasks.
• Observes and reacts to the needs of guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• Communicates and exchanges accurate information with guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners in a variety of formats including in-person, electronically, and over the phone.
• Operates a computer and/or office equipment efficiently and accurately.
• Manipulates and moves components weighing up to 50 pounds, including those that may be low to the ground or above eye level.
• Occasionally work in outdoor environments.
• Frequently works in indoor environments.
• Coping with demands and stresses associated with job and work environment.
• Kneeling and Crouching (frequently)
• Weight Levels Lift, Push, Pull

Expected Hours of Work:

Must be able to work weekends. Occasional early morning or evening work required.
