We are committed to serving the community and treating our patients as family.Radiation Therapists implement plans of treatment, prescribed by an oncologist and created by a medical dosimetrist, and use accelerators and ionizing radiation-producing equipment to treat diseases, primarily different kinds of cancer. The radiation is administered in therapeutic doses and can send certain localized forms of cancer into remission. It can also be used to prevent the recurrence of particularly malignant forms of cancer after surgery. This role offers many opportunities to grow within our clinic and the organization.A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 7:30AM – 7:00 PM.This role is a Monday through Friday possibility, but completely flexible on what a caregiver is willing to pick up. They do not need to cover the early shift (7AM) and they are NOT required to take call. Shifts are typically 4-8 hours.A caregiver who excels in this role will:Determine and deliver appropriate patient treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and dosimetrists.Monitor and document patient's condition and report any adverse reactions.Assess and educate patients according to specific department protocols.Position patients and select anatomic/technical parameters accurately.Check and adjust necessary equipment, including linear accelerators.Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Graduate of a CAHEA approved School of Radiation Therapy technology or registry eligibleRegistered Radiation Therapist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), R.T.(R)( T)( ARRT) in good standingCurrent state licensure as a Radiation TherapistBasic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red CrossExperience with radiation oncology specific electronic medical records as well as record and verifyExcellent verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated problem-solving skillsAbility to communicate and relate well with patients who are under physical and emotional stressAbility to utilize computer programs to input database and capture informationPreferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Experience with external radiation therapy, IMRT, IGRT and CT simulationPhysical Requirements:Ability to perform duties while walking, standing, stooping, reaching and lifting.Ability to lift materials weighing up to 35 lbs.Ability to push/pull over 100 lbs to assist patients.Dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions.Safe Operating Procedure for x-ray generating equipment.Ability to work the hours of operation – flexible.Personal Protective Equipment:Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.The policy of Cleveland Clinic Health System and its system hospitals (Cleveland Clinic Health System) is to provide equal opportunity to all of our caregivers and applicants for employment in our drug free environment.
