Cashier Food Service

Receives and disburses money by selling food to students and staff. Responsible for operating the cash register and maintaining the serving line. Works under general supervision according to some procedures; decides how and when to complete tasks.

Job Responsibility 1: Receives payment by cash, vouchers, or automatic debits. Issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.

Job Responsibility 2: Assists with preparation and packaging of food items; ensures food temperature and portion sizes are appropriate.

Job Responsibility 3: Stocks and rotates food items displayed for sale on the serving line.

Job Responsibility 4: Maintains clean and orderly checkout areas and complete other general cleaning duties, such as cleaning serving area and storing unused food items. Stocks shelves and marks prices.

Job Responsibility 5: Answers customers' questions, and provides information on procedures or policies.

Job Responsibility 6: Assists customers by providing information and resolving their complaints. Processes returns and exchanges.

Job Responsibility 7: Identifies prices of goods and tabulates bills using cash registers or optical price scanners.

Job Responsibility 8: Balances sales to monies received. Completes reports.

Data Responsibility: Compiles, examines, or evaluates data or information and possibly recommends action based on results.

People Responsibility: Attends to the needs or requests of people and exchanges information with them.

Assets Responsibility: Requires some responsibility for achieving minor economies and/or preventing minor losses through the handling of or accounting for materials, supplies, or small amounts of money.

Mathematical Requirements: Uses addition and subtraction such as making change.

Communications Requirements: Reads simple sentences or instructions; writes simple sentences; speaks simple sentences using basic grammar.

Complexity of Work: Performs semi-routine work following procedures, with occasional problems; requires normal attention for accurate results.

Impact of Decisions: Makes decisions with minor impact - affects only those in immediate work area.

Equipment Usage: Handles machines, equipment, or work aids involving little or no latitude for judgment regarding attainment of standard or in selecting appropriate items, such as cash registers and some commercial kitchen equipment.

Safety of Others: Requires some responsibility for safety and health of others and/or for occasional enforcement of the standards of public safety or health.

Education Requirements: Requires high school diploma, GED, or vocational training.

Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations Required: Requires none.

Experience Requirements: Requires three months of related experience including working with customers. Must have knowledge of arithmetic to solve problems.

Physical Demands: Standing and walking: 5+ hours per day (full duty); Lifting and carrying: frequently, with loads weighing 20 to 50 pounds (medium); Push and pull: frequently, with loads weighing 20 to 50 pounds (medium); Dexterity: ability to operate machines, tools or office equipment.
