Low Voltage Technician

Job Title Low Voltage Technician Reports To Lead Communications Technician Job Summary The Communications Technician II must be able to perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Fiber Network Technician will coordinate small groups of installers in the performance of daily workload, including adherence to company safety and quality standards. Job Duties and Responsibilities Install floor or wall outlets: terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mount face plates and surface‑mount boxes, adhere to IESCOMMERCIAL labeling standards. Build closets: mount and install backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware; install grounding; complete all IDC connections (terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels). Perform testing: continuity, volt‑ohmmeter, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, transpose pairs, and use a tone set. Identify active voice or data circuits. Assume responsibility for crew performance, provide training, and coordinate personnel and timelines to complete projects. Complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, etc.). Adhere to and participate in all company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations. Complete other responsibilities as assigned. Salary USD $21,000 - $32,000 per year. Qualifications Physical and Mental Requirements Self‑motivated, positive, professional, and able to create, develop, and implement project process improvements. Promote the company culture and mission to employees, vendors, clients, and partners. Act as the company liaison for interface with customer representatives. Possess proven problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills, and be able to read, write, and give oral presentations. Work at heights, off a ladder, and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs. Be able to see and distinguish colors, read small print, and hear audible signals such as dial tones. Travel within the branch or regional territory as needed. Maintain regular attendance. Tools Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips with belt sheath, pliers (needle‑nose and channel‑locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves. Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, tone set, 6/8 position combo crimp tool. Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements Must possess at least a high school diploma or GED equivalency. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field and demonstrate the ability to supervise others. Must be proficient with the listed tools. Must have skill to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements. Must know universal communications color codes.
