Nurse (Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program-Mental Health)

Summary Boise VA Medical Center in Boise, Idaho is hiring a Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN). The RRTP Mental Health (MH) nurse executes duties to improve patient and organizational outcomes by providing patient‑centered, recovery‑oriented care, maintaining self‑awareness while caring for patients living with MH conditions, and managing the milieu. Qualifications English language proficiency (basic written and spoken English) as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (ACEN or CCNE) or graduate of a comparable program with appropriate equivalency validation (e.g., ICD) for foreign education. Hold a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a registered nurse in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Grant for Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) candidates: appointment at entry step with a 120‑day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure; may extend up to two years on a case‑by‑case basis. Grade determination follows the VA qualification standards, requiring one of the following levels of education and experience: Nurse I – Level I: Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing with no additional professional experience. Nurse I – Level II: ADN/Diploma with 1 year of specialized nursing experience or BSN with no additional experience. Nurse I – Level III: ADN/Diploma with 2 years of experience (1 year equivalent to Level II) or BSN with 1 year experience, or MSN with no additional experience, or related master’s with BSN. Nurse II: BSN with 2 years of experience or MSN with 1 year specialized experience, or related master’s with BSN and 1 year specialized experience, or Doctoral in Nursing with no experience, or related doctorate with BSN. Nurse III: MSN with 2 years specialized experience (1 year equivalent to Nurse II) or related master’s with BSN and 2 years specialized experience, or Doctoral in Nursing with 1 year specialized experience, or related doctorate with BSN and 1 year specialized experience. Reference: Qualification Standards – Duties Facilitate shift reports and hand‑offs, and develop content for nurse‑led psychoeducational groups. Use therapeutic communication and de‑escalation techniques, utilizing recovery‑oriented language. Actively participate in the MH interdisciplinary treatment team and MH Environment of Care rounds. Direct team response to psychiatric emergencies, report safety concerns, and assist in resolution. Document nursing assessments, plan of care, patient safety observations, and environmental safety rounds according to facility policy. Maintain professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerability and act in the best interest of the patient. Collaborate in development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and guidelines. Demonstrate leadership that improves care for MH patients. Foster a safe, supportive environment conducive to professional development of health care professionals. Evaluate MH outcomes of evidence‑based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations. Work schedule: Day shift 0700‑1930 MST, weekends and holidays, compressed/flexible options, no telework, no virtual work, relocation/recruitment incentives not authorized.
