Who We're Looking For We are looking for an experienced industrial designer who understands how industrial facilities actually come together, not simply how they appear on a drawing. This person should bring strong experience with equipment arrangements, piping systems, facility layouts, multidisciplinary coordination, and detailed drawing packages. They should be equally comfortable reviewing a point cloud, walking an active industrial facility, resolving a layout conflict with an engineer, developing a detailed model, and explaining a design decision to a client. The ideal candidate works with a high degree of independence but does not operate in a silo. They communicate early, ask thoughtful questions, share knowledge freely, and understand that their work affects engineering, construction, operations, maintenance, safety, schedules, and budgets. They should also enjoy helping others improve. Chief needs someone who can raise the capability of the design team through technical direction, thoughtful review, and practical mentorship rather than simply becoming the person who handles all of the difficult work. About the Position The Senior Industrial Designer will support the development and execution of industrial engineering and design projects by transforming field information, engineering concepts, specifications, client requirements, and existing-condition data into accurate and constructible design deliverables. This person will lead complex design assignments involving industrial facilities, equipment arrangements, process systems, piping, structural coordination, and facility modifications. Responsibilities extend from field investigation and initial concepts through modeling, drawing development, coordination, quality review, revisions, and final issue. The position also carries broader senior-level responsibility. This individual will review the work of other designers, help maintain drawing and modeling standards, provide technical guidance, assist with project scope and design-hour estimates, communicate with clients, and support multidisciplinary project execution. Lead complex industrial design assignments from initial concept through final drawing and model issue Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for equipment layouts, piping systems, process systems, and facility modifications Translate engineering concepts, field information, specifications, and point-cloud data into accurate, constructible design deliverables Perform field investigations and verify existing conditions, dimensions, equipment, routing, access, and other site constraints Coordinate designs across mechanical, structural, electrical, and other disciplines to identify and resolve conflicts Develop and maintain complete drawing packages, including plans, sections, elevations, details, and equipment arrangements Review drawings and models for quality, accuracy, constructability, and adherence to project and company standards Provide technical guidance, design review, and mentorship to other designers Collaborate with engineers, project managers, clients, and stakeholders to resolve design questions and support project execution Manage multiple design assignments while maintaining schedule, budget, and quality expectations Qualifications 7+ years of relevant industrial design, drafting, or related engineering-design experience Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience Strong working knowledge of industrial equipment layouts, piping systems, facility arrangements, and multidisciplinary design coordination Proficiency with AutoCAD and relevant 3D Autodesk design software Demonstrated ability to develop detailed industrial drawing packages with limited supervision Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, field information, and technical documentation Experience reviewing design work and providing technical direction or mentorship to others Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing project priorities Ability to perform fieldwork safely in active industrial environments and travel to client sites as needed Experience with 3D scanning, LiDAR, point clouds, or scan-to-design workflows is preferred #J-18808-Ljbffr Chief Engineering PLLC
