Custodian - Overnight Shift (10:00pm-6:30am, Mon-Fri), UMKC Campus Facilities Management, 53796

The Custodian II position is part of the Campus Facilities Management (CFM) team and is responsible for performing routine, manual work utilizing knowledge of various custodial materials, equipment, methods, and procedures used in maintaining a clean, neat, and orderly building. Responsibilities include cleaning, sweeping, and removing trash from multiple campus facilities, providing emergency support as needed, and maintaining designated buildings and fixtures and performing routine repair of fixed equipment. Work is subject to spot‑checking for neatness, cleanliness, and workmanship with periodic reviews for overall effectiveness. Key Responsibilities Perform duties in the care and cleaning of buildings (e.g., garages, offices, classrooms, entryways, and restrooms). Clean floors (e.g., sweep, mop, and wax), empty trash receptacles, dust furniture, clean windows and other cleaning‑related duties. May sweep and shovel snow, order cleaning supplies and equipment repairs as needed, and be assigned to work in areas requiring special disinfectants, cleaning techniques, and sanitation procedures or use of special equipment (e.g., large sweeper, power washers). Prepare rooms for meetings by setting up chairs, tables, and necessary equipment. Fabricate simple fixtures or devices for use in the building or assist superiors in fabrication of more complicated apparatus. Provide support for emergency responses and/or large moves/events. Perform building security duties such as locking and unlocking doors, checking windows, turning lights on or off; report items that need repair to the appropriate staff and clean graffiti from surfaces when found. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities are acquired. Ability to read and write. Valid driver's license may be required for certain positions. One year of general maintenance and/or custodial experience preferred. Some knowledge of methods for cleaning equipment and buildings; mechanical ability for minor repair of equipment. Daily physical requirements: ability to visualize work area and determine tasks, bend, squat, reach, stretch, walk, stand, sit, grasp and twist repeatedly, climb stairs, step stools, and ladders; lift, carry, and set down objects of moderate weight (25-50 lbs.). Work may include one or more of the following: working in areas of extreme temperatures, wearing a backpack vacuum for long periods, wearing protective mask and hearing protection devices, working around dust and cleaning chemicals. Good physical coordination and mechanical aptitude sufficient to perform assigned duties. Shift 10:00pm – 6:30am, Monday through Friday Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $16.00 – $17.00 hourly.
