Job Summary

The Personal Training Director (PTD) is the business owner of the Personal Training department at an assigned club and is accountable for its performance, profitability, staffing, and member experience. The PTD recruits, develops, and retains a high-performing training team; maintains appropriate staffing and capacity; and drives Company targets for revenue, new-client enrollment, retention, and client results.

The PTD leads by example, serves as the primary fitness expert within the club, and personally services qualifying Personal Training sessions while maintaining an active client base.

Business Ownership & Scope of Authority

The PTD is the first line of resolution for operational, staffing, service, and performance matters within the Personal Training department.

When the department is understaffed, the PTD is responsible for maintaining member service and session delivery while prioritizing recruitment and placement of qualified trainers.

The PTD is expected to identify, own, and resolve department issues unless Company policy requires escalation.

Matters requiring escalation to the Regional Director of Fitness, Human Resources, Legal, or other Company leadership include:

Workplace investigations, harassment, discrimination, or protected employee-relations matters.
Terminations, leaves of absence, or actions requiring HR approval.
Legal claims, disputes, subpoenas, or regulatory inquiries.
Changes to approved staffing plans, budgets, pricing, or Company programming.
Other matters designated by Company policy.
Leadership Responsibility

The PTD leads the Personal Training department at one assigned club and may manage or oversee:
Personal Training Directors in Training
Elite Trainers
Master Trainers
Personal Trainers
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Staffing
Recruit, hire, onboard, develop, and retain qualified Personal Training team members.
Maintain staffing levels and training capacity consistent with the approved staffing plan and member demand.
Conduct regular team meetings and one-on-ones focused on performance, development, and accountability.
Build an engaged, high-performing culture that supports employee retention.
Identify and develop future leaders, including preparing PT Directors in Training for advancement.
Administer coaching and discipline in accordance with Company policy and Regional Director guidance.
Business & Revenue Performance
Own Personal Training revenue and profitability at the assigned location.
Drive achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue objectives.
Establish departmental and individual performance goals.
Develop staff sales skills, including conversion, referrals, prospecting, and follow-up.
Drive CrunchONE Kickoff attachment, completion, conversion, and client lifespan performance.
Maintain an active Personal Training client base and service qualifying sessions.
Support approved local marketing, events, trainer promotion, and social media initiatives.
Payroll, Staffing & Compliance
Ensure required employment documentation, credentials, and certifications are complete and maintained.
Ensure all hours worked are accurately recorded and compensated according to Company policy and applicable law.
Complete payroll accurately and on time and perform required compliance reviews.
Manage staffing schedules and labor expenses within approved margins.
Ensure trainers maintain current CPR/AED and Company-approved professional certifications.
Ensure completion of required onboarding and training through Company-designated systems.
Technology & Data
Ensure Company platforms and systems are properly maintained and utilized.
Maintain appropriate system access, data security, and required audits.
Use Company dashboards and reporting tools, including Power BI, to monitor performance, identify risks, and make business decisions.
Client Experience & Retention
Coach trainers to consistently deliver professional, results-driven Personal Training.
Provide ongoing development to improve sales, service, and coaching execution.
Ensure required client records and programming documentation are accurately maintained.
Proactively identify and manage at-risk clients.
Drive achievement of client retention and lifespan targets.
Ensure clients receive scheduled results reviews and ongoing accountability.
Financial Integrity & Loss Prevention
Ensure collections, billing practices, and payment methods comply with Company policy and client authorization.
Prevent, identify, and promptly report suspected falsification, theft, fraud, or other loss-prevention concerns.
Retail Performance
Drive Company-approved retail and supplementation programs in accordance with established targets.

Experience & Qualifications
Previous experience in fitness, health clubs, hospitality, retail, or a related industry with demonstrated leadership or supervisory responsibility.
Demonstrated success delivering Personal Training results and developing a client base.
Experience recruiting, developing, and retaining employees preferred.
Experience managing budgets, staffing schedules, and payroll preferred.
Previous experience as a PT Director in Training, Master Trainer, Elite Trainer, or comparable leadership-track role preferred.
Education & Certification
High school diploma or GED required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Current nationally accredited Personal Training certification required, including NASM or another Company-approved certification.
Current CPR/AED certification required.
Physical Requirements

Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

Demonstrating, instructing, and participating in fitness activities.
Regularly lifting up to 50 pounds.
Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and working on the training floor for extended periods.
Travel Requirements

The position is assigned to one club location. Occasional travel may be required for Company meetings, training, regional events, or new-club support.

Work Schedule

This is an exempt leadership position requiring a significant time commitment. Regular evenings, weekends, extended hours, and presence during peak member hours may be required based on business needs. Scheduling is coordinated with the Regional Director of Fitness and the operational needs of the assigned location.
