The Organization The Center for Justice Innovation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing community safety and racial justice. Since 1996, we’ve worked alongside communities, courts, and those most directly affected by the justice system to build stronger, healthier, and more equitable neighborhoods. With a team of over 900 staff and an annual budget of $130 million, the Center carries out its mission through three core strategies: Operating Programs that pilot new ideas and address local challenges; Conducting original research to evaluate what works—and what doesn’t; Providing expert assistance and policy guidance to reformers across the country and beyond. The Opportunity The Center for Justice Innovation is seeking a Case Manager for its Brooklyn Felony Diversion programs. The Case Manager will serve individuals who are mandated to Felony Alternative to Incarceration (Felony ATI) programming through Brooklyn Supreme Court. Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Case Manager is responsible for conducting intakes and assessments, linking clients to a range of wrap‑around services, providing comprehensive trauma‑informed case management, facilitating psychoeducational groups, compliance monitoring and reporting. The Case Manager will also be expected, as needed, to serve clients mandated to Brooklyn Mental Health Court, another program under Brooklyn Felony Diversion, which diverts people who are living with serious mental illness from jail or prison through community‑based treatment services. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive, clinically‑informed case management and individual counseling services to mandated Felony ATI and Brooklyn Mental Health Court participants (and, where appropriate, their families) that address issues such as substance use, mental health issues, trauma, domestic violence, housing, and educational/vocational needs; and other challenges in a client’s life (e.g. new arrests, family court cases and other civil legal issues); Conduct intakes and needs‑based screenings for newly mandated clients; Complete scheduling of services for clients both in‑person and on the phone; Provide ongoing crisis intervention and de‑escalation, as needed; Maintain appropriate client information in electronic databases and paper files; Facilitate coordinated service delivery from on‑site agencies and community‑based agencies for mandated services and voluntary referrals; Establish and maintain linkages with community partners who can provide appropriate interventions and services to court‑involved individuals; Provide written treatment updates for court stakeholders for all court‑involved participants; Coordinate with court stakeholders on any non‑compliance issues and assist clients in getting back into compliance, including re‑engaging clients, arranging return on warrants, and implementing graduate responses to encourage future compliance; Attend court on calendar days, as needed, to help clients navigate court and collaborate with court staff and stakeholders; Deliver court update reports to the courtroom(s), gather case outcome information, collect court documents and stand on the record, as needed; Participate in regular interdisciplinary case conferences with court stakeholders; Assist with toxicology testing and reporting; Facilitate and develop a range of on‑site psychoeducational groups and conducting individualized sessions; Accompany participants to community‑based agencies or appointments, as needed, including escorting clients from court to their programs and intake appointments; Assist with administrative responsibilities including data collection and management, and grant reporting requirements, as needed; Provide services as described above to program participants on a voluntary basis post‑mandate; In addition to providing the above‑listed services to Felony ATI participants, the case manager will also be expected to provide similar services to Brooklyn Mental Health Court participants, as needed; Attend all required staff meetings and trainings; and; Other relevant tasks, as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree, with a minimum of 3-4 years in criminal justice and/or a related field. Excellent written skills are a must. Bilingual (English‑Spanish) preferred. Candidate must be a skilled communicator able to work in a multi‑disciplinary setting and maintain strong relationships with multiple agencies and organizations both onsite and in the community.
