ANSWER THE CALL Join the Roseville Police Department in the role of Police Officer Trainee. The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the limited-term full-time position of Police Officer Trainee in the Roseville Police Department (note this position will be limited term while attending Police Academy). The appointee(s) will attend a P.O.S.T. certified basic academy during regular academy hours and any other scheduled departmental and academy exercise and activities. Successful completion of the academy is required to continue employment and be promoted to a Police Officer. Definition To perform sworn law enforcement and crime prevention duties involved in the protection of life and property; and to perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of law enforcement services and activities. Applicants selected to participate in the Police Department's testing process will partake in the following: PELLET-B Written Examination measures job-related knowledge and abilities. Tentative Examination Date: Thursday, August 20, 2026 . If you have a PELLETB score, please attach to your application. NOTE: The minimum acceptable t-score cut-off for the PELLETB is 50 (fifty) within the past year of your application date. Performance Test evaluates ability to physically perform the duties of position. Tentative Agility Test Date: Wednesday, September 2, 2026 . Oral Interview evaluates training, experience, and personal qualifications. Tentative Interview Dates: September 7 - September 9, 2026 . The interview dates are subject to change, dependent on number of candidates advancing to the interview step. Background Investigation Candidates who have successfully completed all prior phases of the selection process will be subject to a thorough background investigation. The investigation is used to determine a candidate's moral character and suitability for employment in law enforcement. The investigation shall include, but is not limited to, the following checks: criminal record, polygraph, driving history, credit history, military record, previous employer(s), and references. Medical Examination Prior to appointment, candidates must successfully complete a thorough medical examination, including a drug screen, to determine if they meet the City's medical standards for the position of Police Officer. Psychological Evaluation Prior to appointment, candidates will be evaluated for their suitability for employment as a Roseville Police Officer. Distinguishing Characteristics This is the entry level class in the Police Officer series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. The Police Officer Trainee class is distinguished from the Police Officer level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the Officer level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned. Supervision Received and Exercised Receives immediate supervision from police academy staff; receives technical and functional supervision from an assigned Field Training Officer. Training Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or other high school equivalency test approved by the California Department of Education or a higher level degree from an accredited educational institution. License or Certificate Possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment. Must be age 21 by date of appointment. The City of Roseville will accept verification from any of the listed member agencies found at or A copy of the foreign credential evaluation verification can be attached to the employment application. If you are offered a position with the City of Roseville, as a part of the pre-employment steps, applicants must provide a foreign degree credential equivalency certificate from an approved member agency above. Applicants who do not provide verification, will be eliminated from further consideration. All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their application scored in a Formula Rate Examination. The applicant’s experience and education will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the Employment List. Supplemental questions will be utilized by the department hiring authority to make interview and selection determinations. Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a City-paid fingerprint check, and depending on the position applied for, a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol screening test, credit check, license and/or education verification, psychological examination, and/or an extensive Police Department background check process.
