Speech-Language Pathologist II - 30 hours (Sign On Bonus Eligible)

Job Profile Summary This role focuses on assessing the needs of patients with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities and delivering therapy services to improve their developmental, physical, or cognitive impairments. The clinician evaluates patients using sound therapy and other speech-language techniques to enhance physical and mental conditions. The position is a professional individual contributor that may direct lower‑level professionals and manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation, or delivery of processes, programs, and policies using specialized knowledge typically acquired through advanced education. Job Overview The clinician evaluates and diagnoses problems related to speech, language, swallowing, and communication disorders. Responsibilities include formulating and recommending plans that may contain therapy, referrals, extensive evaluations, or home‑training programs to achieve maximum functional independence. The position functions in both inpatient and outpatient settings and documents all patient care in the medical record to meet department policies and Joint Commission requirements. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech and Hearing Association Massachusetts state Speech Therapist License Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification One (1) year of experience as a Speech Therapist Preferred Qualifications Acute care experience Experience with MBS and FEES Duties and Responsibilities Evaluate and screen patients referred to Speech and Language Pathology with high professional competency and efficiency across all ages. Provide services for adult outpatient (swallowing, speech, cognition, language) and adult inpatient acute settings. Educate and counsel patients, staff, and caregivers about diagnosis, etiology, and rehabilitation trajectory. Prepare written reports of evaluations and progress for individual cases. Select appropriate tests, measures, and rehabilitation services, delivering them consistently and efficiently. Determine clinical indication and timeline trajectory for instrumental swallowing evaluations. Complete documentation, including evaluation reports, progress notes, periodic re‑assessments and discharge summaries, in a timely manner. Comply with insurance requirements, obtaining MD signatures and insurance approvals. Develop hydration/nutrition goals and safe medication provision plans in the acute care setting. Educate staff on clinical skills; serve as a clinical liaison to other staff. Maintain professional growth and development to preserve high clinical competency. Apply, perform and interpret FEES and MBS independently. Collaborate with Respiratory Therapy, Surgical Residents, and Pulmonary teams for care plan progression of patients with tracheostomy. Keep current with literature and new tests, instruments, and machines in the field. Initiate and/or participate in research projects as required. Assist with holiday and weekend coverage on a PRN on‑call schedule. Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, and transfer of patients. Manual dexterity for computer keyboard operation, quantitative testing, and manual treatment techniques. Ability to view computer screens and reports. Visual and auditory assessment of patients’ injury and functional status. Skills & Abilities Broad knowledge and skills in diagnosing and treating speech, language, cognitive, and communicative disorders. Interpersonal skills, including communication, teamwork, and the ability to work one‑on‑one or in groups. Independent, self‑motivated, and well‑organized work style suitable for very busy situations. Responsible, reliable, and flexible to accommodate changes at short notice. Mature and effective in multidisciplinary settings. Ability to work with a wide variety of patients with acute and long‑term disability. Fluent in reading, writing, and communicating in English. Demonstrated knowledge and skills to assess needs across all age populations and adjust plans accordingly. Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effect, adjusting plans as needed. Excellent time‑management skills to achieve department productivity while ensuring quality patient care. Compensation & Benefits Pay Range: $83,200.00 – $98,614.15. The base pay reflects the minimum qualifications for the role.
