Veterinary Oncologist - Owner Veterinarian
Arista DVM
Job Description
Job Description
VETERINARY ONCOLOGIST
Ownership or Associate Opportunity | Arista Advanced Pet Care Asheville
Something unusually good is taking shape in Asheville. We cannot tell you exactly who is building it just yet, but we can share a few things.
The founding ownership group spans emergency, internal medicine, surgery, and a fourth specialty that we will announce soon.
What we can tell you is that this is an extraordinary group of clinicians. They practice excellent medicine and care about the entire community their hospital will serve: pets and their families, referring veterinarians, receiving doctors, and veterinary support teams alike.
This is the kind of group people usually hope to find after years of searching. Somehow, they found one another before the doors have even opened.
Meet the founding group
It is still a little too early to introduce Asheville's founding owners by name, but we can tell you who they are as people and clinicians.
They are smart, curious clinicians who ask good questions and remain open to better answers. They look for solutions, assume good intentions, work hard, and want to build a hospital that becomes a trusted resource for Asheville's veterinary community.
They understand that exceptional patient care depends on exceptional veterinary professionals. They intend to create a place where talented people are supported, have room to grow, and want to stay.
Most importantly, as owners, they have the freedom to build the kind of culture they want to work in every day.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a Veterinary Oncologist who wants to help build a hospital where collaboration is something people actually do, not simply a word printed in the job advertisement.
You may be a good fit if you:
- Are generous with technicians and fellow doctors
- Believe cases should go where they will receive the best care
- Want to teach and learn because contributing is the right thing to do
- Look for a way to say yes, even when it would be easier to say no
- Assume good intentions and bring concerns with possible solutions
- Want to help build the culture, not sit on the sidelines and critique it
- Care about the pet-owning community and the veterinary professionals who serve it
- Have a sense of humor, because veterinary medicine is hard and we need to have some fun together while doing it
What working here looks like
You will practice in a modern emergency and multispecialty hospital where consultation happens in real time and complicated cases do not have to be managed alone.
Our Care Navigation team guides clients through the referral experience. Scribble provides ambient dictation, allowing you to spend less time typing and more time practicing medicine. Instinct serves as our EMR and PIMS, bringing patient care, communication, and workflow together in a system our teams genuinely enjoy using.
Production is paid monthly, and our production dashboard lets you track your numbers daily. There are no mysterious calculations happening somewhere behind the curtain.
You will be supported and heard. Good ideas are welcome here. Even better, they have a reasonable chance of being implemented.
Ownership or associate path
If you are an oncologist interested in ownership, you can own a meaningful piece of the hospital while continuing to practice medicine. You will participate in local decisions and share in the value you help create.
Real ownership means more than having a voice when the decision is easy. It also means balancing your ideas with those of your partners and considering what is best for the hospital, its patients, and the team depending on it. It is meaningful, occasionally messy, and worth it.
If ownership is not for you, we also offer associate positions. Associates work alongside the clinician owners and have meaningful influence over how medicine is practiced.
Did we mention there are no non-competes?
We want people to stay because they like it here, not because they are handcuffed.
Finding your Asheville
Asheville gives you a real life outside the hospital. You can live close to restaurants, music, galleries, and coffee, or trade a short drive for acreage, horses, and a mountain view.
If you want historic homes and quick access to downtown, look at Montford or North Asheville. If independent restaurants, music, older bungalows, and a little more edge sound like you, West Asheville has its own personality and a strong neighborhood feel.
If you want a smaller town with a walkable center, Black Mountain and Weaverville both let you stay connected to Asheville while having a community of your own. Hendersonville offers a lively downtown and easy access to the southern side of the region.
If more land is the dream, look toward Fairview, Leicester, or Mills River. The practical definition of a backyard changes quickly once you leave the center of town.
The Blue Ridge Parkway, Pisgah National Forest, and miles of hiking and mountain biking are close enough to become part of an ordinary week. Asheville also has serious restaurants, an outsized music and arts scene, and enough breweries that even committed non-beer drinkers eventually develop opinions about them.
It is a place where people care about local businesses, the outdoors, their animals, and their community. That makes it a very good place to build a hospital around the same ideas.
The practical stuff
- Four weeks of paid time off
- $5,000 annual continuing education allowance
- 401(k) with a 4% match
- Paid parental leave
- Pet insurance
- Production paid monthly
- No negative accrual
- No non-compete for associates
Arista was built around a simple belief: there need to be veterinarians who own hospitals again.
Owners who are in the building, understand the profession, and can make thoughtful decisions about how they care for patients, support their teams, and serve their communities.
We are not building a perfect hospital filled with people who never disagree. That hospital does not exist, despite what several job advertisements may have told you.
We are building something real with talented people who care, work hard, say yes, and want to make veterinary medicine feel worth choosing again.
If that sounds more interesting than another "fast-paced practice with a family feel," we should talk.
