Summary of the Role: This position oversees the management and care of plants in the vegetative stage of growth, ensuring they are healthy, thriving, and ready for the flowering stage. The VL works closely with the Cultivation and Post-Harvest Manager to execute cultivation strategies and contribute to the efficient operation of the facility. This role requires leadership skills, a strong understanding of plant care, and the ability to maintain high standards in a fast-paced and regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Supervise and coordinate daily activities within the vegetative growth area, ensuring plant health, growth, and development.
• Manage and maintain optimal growing conditions (lighting, temperature, humidity, irrigation) for plants in the vegetative stage.
• Train, guide, and oversee the veg team on proper horticultural practices, including pruning, transplanting, cloning, and pest management.
• Monitor and assess plant health, making recommendations for necessary adjustments or interventions.
• Maintain detailed records on plant health, growth stages, and environmental conditions to comply with facility protocols and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure the vegetative area is clean, organized, and compliant with all sanitation standards to prevent cross-contamination and maintain a safe working environment.
• Communicate regularly with the Cultivation and Post-Harvest Manager about plant progress, issues, and any required resources or adjustments.
• Collaborate with the Flowering team to ensure a smooth and timely transition of plants into the flowering stage.
• Monitor nutrient and water schedules to ensure plants receive the proper care for healthy growth.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to plant health, pests, diseases, or environmental conditions.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of cultivation practices to improve yield, quality, and efficiency.
• Ensure the proper handling and disposal of waste materials, ensuring compliance with local regulations.

Qualifications: 

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or higher in horticulture, plant science, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in cannabis cultivation, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role in the vegetative stage.
• Strong knowledge of cannabis plant care, cultivation techniques, and pest management strategies.
• Familiarity with cultivation equipment, irrigation systems, and environmental controls.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of cultivation staff.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of state and local cannabis regulations and compliance requirements is preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age to work within the OH MMCP
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.
• Attention to detail and a quick eye

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   

• Ability to work up to 10 hours a day and rotating shifts
• Flexible schedule availability including nights, weekends and holidays   
• Ability to lift, push, and pull 75 pounds   

• Ability to sit, squat, bend, and kneel repetitively throughout a workday   
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time   
• Extended computer usage 
• Comfortable being under constant video surveillance 
• Work environments that include exposure to, but not limited to fumes, dust, odors, heights, indoor AC, no AC, motion, and noise.
