Position Title: Senior Angular Architect

Reports to: Engineering Lead

FLSA Classification: Exempt

 

Location : DMV area, hybrid – primarily remote with in-person client engagement as needed

Travel Requirements : Occasional travel within the DC-metro area for customer engagements and team on-sites

Position Summary

The Senior Angular Architect owns the front-end architecture of CloudAI's products and customer solutions, from application structure and state management through performance, accessibility, and release. The role sets the standards other engineers build against, makes the framework and library decisions a codebase lives with for years, and stays close enough to the code to prove those decisions work. Working alongside back-end, data, and AI engineers, the Senior Angular Architect ensures the user-facing layer of a solution is coherent, accessible, performant, and maintainable. As a senior technical leader, the architect mentors engineers and raises the quality of front-end practice across CloudAI.

Key Responsibilities

Own the front-end architecture of CloudAI products and customer solutions.

• Define application structure, module boundaries, state management, routing, and component hierarchy for Angular applications intended to last.
• Select and govern the front-end stack, including libraries, component systems, build tooling, and testing frameworks, and record the reasoning behind each decision.
• Design the integration layer between the application and back-end services, including GraphQL and REST contracts, caching, error handling, and authentication flows.
• Establish performance, accessibility, and security standards, and hold the codebase to them through review and automated checks.

Build the hard parts and set the pattern for the rest.

• Implement the foundational and highest-risk portions of the application directly, including shared component libraries, design system implementation, and complex interaction patterns.
• Lead framework migrations and version upgrades, including legacy AngularJS or older Angular versions, standalone components, and signal-based state.
• Diagnose and resolve rendering, performance, and bundle size problems through measurement rather than assumption.
• Navigate changing requirements and shifting priorities without compromising the integrity of the architecture.

Raise the capability of the engineering team.

• Review code with an emphasis on teaching, and mentor engineers on Angular patterns, TypeScript, testing, and accessibility.
• Partner with design to translate design systems into implemented, reusable, documented components.
• Define the front-end definition of done, including coverage expectations, and partner with test automation on the strategy that enforces it.

Contribute to solution shaping and delivery.

• Estimate front-end effort, identify technical risk, and contribute to solution approach during presales and project planning.
• Engage customers directly on technical decisions, constraints, and trade-offs.
• Systematize standards, templates, and starter tooling as new needs surface from engagement work.

Technical Competencies

• Angular at depth, including modern versions, standalone components, signals, RxJS, dependency injection, change detection, and the Angular CLI and build pipeline.
• TypeScript, HTML, and CSS at an expert level, including responsive layout, design token systems, and cross-browser behavior.
• Front-end architecture patterns, including monorepo tooling such as Nx, micro-frontends, state management such as NgRx, and shared component library design.
• React and Next.js preferred, at a depth sufficient to evaluate framework selection, support solutions built outside Angular, and reason about server-side rendering, static generation, and hydration against the trade-offs of a client-rendered application.
• API integration, including GraphQL clients, REST, and authentication and authorization flows such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and Cognito.
• Testing and quality, including Jest, Jasmine, or Karma for unit testing, Cypress or Playwright for end-to-end testing, and accessibility validation against WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508.
• CI/CD and cloud deployment of front-end applications, including AWS or Azure hosting, CDN configuration, and build optimization.

Education & Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ten (10) to twelve (12) years of professional software engineering experience, the majority focused on front-end development.
• Demonstrated experience owning the front-end architecture of a production application through full lifecycle to production.
• Demonstrated experience leading an Angular version migration or a legacy front-end modernization.
• Experience designing and maintaining a shared component library or design system implementation used by multiple teams or applications.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading code review as the technical authority for a codebase.
• Experience building production applications in React and Next.js preferred, in addition to Angular depth.
• Experience delivering applications that meet WCAG 2.1 AA or Section 508 accessibility requirements preferred.
• Experience with public sector, SLED (state, local, and education), or higher-education clients preferred, not required.
• Must physically reside in the United States and be authorized to work in the United States. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is not required.

Certifications

• No certification required for this role.
