What our team Needs: We are seeking a dedicated, team-oriented Assistant Underwriter to provide exceptional service to our valued commercial clients. In this role, you will be assisting in the maintenance of our customer’s insurance programs. This position puts a heavy emphasis on claims reported to our agency and follow-up; correspondence with carriers and customers; updates to the agency management system; and daily support of Account Executives. THIS POSITION NEEDS TO BE IN THE AUSTIN AREA AND ABLE TO COME INTO THE OFFICE TWICE A WEEK. Key Components of the Position: Maintain and update agency systems (Vertafore AMS), including training, data entry, document management, and annual form updates. Process and manage surplus lines filings for both Texas and out-of-state policies, including coordination with external vendors and reporting to accounting. Access carrier portals (e.g., Chubb, CNA, Travelers, Hanover, Intact, ABA, AmTrust) to retrieve loss runs, claims information, endorsements, and policy documents. Format, organize, and distribute policies and related documents to Account Managers. Manage incoming mail and electronic communications, including scanning, routing, and maintaining records in SharePoint; coordinate with accounting on payments and statements. Process invoices, direct bill entries, and Texas Notary Public Bond applications. Request and track loss runs, ensuring timely delivery to Account Managers. Assist with claims processing, including updating systems, communicating with carriers, and providing status updates. Assemble policy binders and distribute required documents such as Workers’ Comp postings and Auto ID cards. Maintain licensing records and ensure proper documentation is accessible for team use. Other duties as assigned. Essential Qualifications & Characteristics: 1–3 years of experience in insurance, underwriting support, or a related administrative/operations role. Basic understanding of commercial insurance principles, including policy structure, risk evaluation, and terminology. Experience working with agency management systems (e.g., Vertafore AMS) or similar platforms. Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Adobe) and ability to learn new systems quickly. Excellent organizational and document management skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal teams and external partners. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Self-motivated, team-oriented, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
