BUILDING INSPECTOR

Description Under immediate supervision, participates and receives training in a municipal government program by assisting in research activities and various organizational assignments; performs specialized technical and routine administrative work; performs related duties as assigned. This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Examples of Duties Performs research and analysis on administrative and operational matters as directed; prepares reports to summarize findings and makes recommendations as to appropriate action to be taken. Researches, gathers, summarizes, compiles data and prepares reports in accordance with general guidelines. Reads and comprehends maps and technical reports. Participates in the preparation and revision of manuals and other administrative materials; provides administrative assistance in the implementation of new administrative procedures. Responds to inquiries and provides technical and administrative assistance to resolve complaints, or refers to appropriate authority. Operates a computer terminal to key data, perform file maintenance, and generate computer reports; may initiate or prepare correspondence in the performance of assigned tasks. Performs routine systems hardware maintenance and/or requests service as required. Coordinates activities with other City departments in the performance of assigned tasks; assists others in the performance of related tasks. Minimum Qualifications Education and/or Experience Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance. Example combinations include: Graduation from high school or equivalent; with Junior, Senior or Graduate status in or graduation from an accredited college/university with substantial course work in business or public administration or a related field (additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis). Skills Working knowledge of methods and techniques of research, statistical analysis, and report preparation; organization and functions of the assigned municipal department; computer operations and a variety of software programs; general office procedures. Ability To Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; perform specialized, technical, and routine administrative tasks; key data and operate a computer terminal in performance of assigned tasks; conduct research, perform analysis, and prepare reports of findings; work independently; understand and follow verbal and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; understand, explain and apply policies and procedures; deal constructively with conflict and develop effective resolutions; learn to coordinate activities with other City departments. Skill In Operating a computer and using a variety of software programs including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint with willingness to learn basic MS Access and Adobe Photoshop. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, and turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing statistical reports and data using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near vision in reading correspondence, statistical data on the computer; reading from a computer screen. Acute hearing is required when providing telephone service and communicating in person. The need to lift, drag and push files, data reports or other materials weighing up to 20 pounds also is required. Employment Employment for this group is at-will and based on continued programmatic needs. No guarantees are made related to hours or longevity. Hours are limited to less than 1,000 hours per fiscal year. Employees do not receive health, retirement, or any other benefits unless otherwise required by law. Deferred Compensation In lieu of Social Security, employees are required to contribute 5.5% of salary on a pre-tax basis every pay period to an OBRA 457 deferred compensation plan.
