Cloud System Engineer

The Cloud System Engineer supports the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) hosted in AWS GovCloud. This role is responsible for provisioning, maintaining, automating, monitoring, and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure that supports enterprise data, analytics, and AI/ML workloads. The engineer will collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable cloud services while continuing to expand cloud engineering expertise.




Core Requirements
Hands-on knowledge of AWS services including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, EKS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Systems Manager Parameter Store.
Understanding of AWS networking, including subnets, routing, security groups, and connectivity.
Experience with IAM roles, policies, permissions, and least-privilege access.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation, Terraform, or similar tools.
Experience with Git-based source control; GitLab preferred.
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
Ability to monitor, troubleshoot, analyze logs, and resolve cloud infrastructure issues.
Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or Professional certification.
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.

Key Skills & Responsibilities
Provision, configure, and maintain AWS infrastructure across compute, storage, networking, security, and monitoring services.
Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, and automation tools.
Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and platform deployments.
Manage source-controlled infrastructure code using Git repositories.
Support containerized workloads and Kubernetes environments within Amazon EKS.
Configure monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational dashboards using CloudWatch and CloudTrail.
Implement secure cloud configurations, access controls, encryption, and audit logging requirements.
Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment, networking, permissions, and performance issues.
Assist with cloud upgrades, environment maintenance, scaling, capacity planning, and cost optimization.
Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting, APIs, and command-line tools.
Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, deployment procedures, and architecture diagrams.
Support onboarding of applications, teams, and users by provisioning infrastructure and permissions.
Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
