Job Posting: Baker The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the goals, values and operating principles of Sedano's Supermarkets, and in conformity with all laws and regulations governing the company. Every employee is to follow the policies and procedures of his/her department as well as those of the company to ensure smooth operations. Every employee, regardless of job title, is responsible for ensuring a safe environment throughout the store. This includes, but is not limited to immediately securing an area when a hazardous situation occurs, promptly informing the store manager of the situation, and/or promptly taking action to remove the hazardous condition. Every employee must also maintain a friendly attitude, wear the proper uniform or dress code, keep the store stocked and organized, and provide excellent customer service on a regular basis. The Baker is responsible for the daily preparation and presentation of baked items sold in the store ensuring customer satisfaction and excellent service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Upon arrival in the morning, light the gas ovens, check for gas leaks, turn on the extractor Bake bread, pastries or other bakery items as needed Prepare flan, custards, rice pudding or other bakery items as needed Place loaves of bread into bags and put on display for sale, restocking when necessary Maintain awareness of floor conditions; ensure all safety measures are taken to protect customers, vendors and employees Restock displays of food as needed; retrieve food from back room, kitchen and cooler Maintain all requirements for a sanitary work area to keep food safe from contamination; adhere to department procedures with all aspects of federal, state, local and company health, safety and sanitation codes Keep work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; wash, sanitize, and store knives and other department utensils and equipment properly Use all equipment in the kitchen properly such as the stoves, ovens, fryers, steamers, etc., according to company guidelines; call for repairs when equipment malfunctions occur Report all accidents promptly according to company procedures Assist the head cook as needed Ensure safety measures are taken upon oneself when handling or carrying hot trays of food Ensure all standards of cleanliness are maintained using gloves when warranted When scheduled for the evening shift, prepare bread dough for baking the next morning by placing on trays and allowing dough to rise overnight Attend and participate in department or store meetings Punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies; ensure work responsibilities are covered during foreseeable absences Performs other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position Secondary Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the food servers as needed by promptly attending to customers' requests for department food products Sweep and/or mop floor as needed Qualifications Minimum Requirements - Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; minimum 18 years of age, previous food service experience, and current food safety training certificate required which must be renewed every three (3) years. Competencies, Skills and/or Qualifications: Ability to read and speak English and Spanish preferred Ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one Good interpersonal skills Ability to use department equipment properly to accomplish the essential duties of the position Takes responsibility for own actions Ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends Basic mathematical skills; ability to use and understand weights and measures Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: Stand and walk Use fingers and hands to type, handle, or feel; use repetitive motion Reach with hands and arms Talk and hear Use sense of smell Close vision and peripheral vision The employee is frequently required to: Carry, lift and/or move departmental food products and merchandise Push and pull carts of departmental food products and merchandise Twist back and neck The employee is occasionally required to: Stoop or bend at the waist Crouch or bend at the knees Kneel The employee is rarely required to: Climb ladder Balance Sit The individual performs duties in a grocery store environment. He or she maintains frequent contact with supervisors, employees and customers. The noise level in the work environment is low. In this position, there is the possibility of using knives, scales, stock cart, hot/cold temperature exposure, ovens, coolers, ice machines, and cleaning supplies and equipment.
