Summary: Responsible for providing direct classroom instruction key administrative duties, and for providing direct instruction within Takoda Prep of AIOIC - an accredited secondary education school (high school) that is a part of the Minneapolis Public School district as a Contract Alternative Program (CAP).

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Responsible for providing direct instruction as a teacher within Takoda Prep of AIOIC for a portion of the classes built into the Takoda Prep of AIOIC daily schedule.
• Responsible for providing direct instruction as a teacher with the Takoda GED department for a portion of the day.
• Supports the Lead Teacher of Takoda Prep regarding the duties and daily activities concerning instruction within Takoda Prep of AIOIC - including curriculum delivery, external partnerships, grading and grade recording, ongoing communication and supportive interactions with all students, ongoing communication and supportive interactions with all parents and the wider base community that the school serves, participation within all required Professional Development sessions, and leading/facilitating ongoing Takoda Prep faculty meetings.
• Contributes and supports the development of the design, implementation, and reporting for all academic and curriculum practices (scope and sequencing of all classes) as pursued by Takoda Prep of AIOIC – both during the traditional academic year as well as during Summer Session.
• Responsible for working in concert and in support of the Lead Teacher of Takoda Prep of AIOIC, fellow faculty members, AIOIC administrative staff, and with any and all external personnel working in partnership on site at Takoda Prep of AIOIC with regards to achieving all deliverables required by grants and contracts beyond the Minneapolis Public School District (these include but are not exclusive to philanthropic supports and foundations, external partnerships, etc.) 
• Supports the coordination of all transition planning for High School Seniors to ensure that each have a well-defined pathway post-graduation either into Post-Secondary matriculation or on into employment or career services.*
• Attends all required trainings relating to the operations and functionality of Takoda Prep of AIOIC – including associations, and partnership networks
• Responsible for any other additional responsibilities that might be included at the discretion of the Lead Teacher of Takoda Prep, the AIOIC Secondary Education Director, and/or the President and CEO of the AIOIC at a future date.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (M. A. / M. S.) or equivalent required; active Tier 3 or Tier 4 Minnesota state Teacher’s License at the Secondary Education Level, two to four years related teaching experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience as stated above.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft word, Microsoft Excel, and database software.

Specialized Training:

Administrative and accounting trainings preferred

Required Certificates and Licenses:

Minnesota State Teaching License at the Secondary Education Level – at either a Tier 3 or Tier 4 level 

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:

• Communication skills
• Knowledge with case files or student file management
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Ability to work effectively with diverse, inner-city populations of students consisting of varying abilities, backgrounds, and ages
• Ability to manage a classroom
• Ability to teach to the standards set by the Minnesota Department of Education, the Minneapolis Public School District and by the school itself
• Knowledge of the history, culture, and perspectives of the Native American people
