Personal Financial Counselor, Assignment Ready Counselor - Rhode Island

The Personal Financial Counselor (Assignment Ready Counselor – Rhode Island) will provide coverage for short-term, surge, and on-demand situations stemming from military needs, such as post-deployment events or to cover absent counselors. The role involves delivering a full spectrum of personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at installations. Responsibilities Provide one‑on‑one counseling, consultations with commanders or staff, briefings, and presentations; offer referral resources. Work closely with installation and branch Points of Contact (POC) to ensure program scope and installation needs are met. Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences. Develop and disseminate informational financial materials. Coordinate, publicize, and offer a variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops across the military lifecycle. Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars. Utilize virtual counseling or electronic modes of communication (web‑based chat or video). Manage duty‑to‑warn situations in accordance with DoD protocol. Communicate with leadership and participate in supervision, reporting trends and issues. Engage in regular training, quality‑improvement committees, and other contract activities as directed. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; associate degree plus 4 years of experience or high‑school diploma plus 6 years of experience may be considered. 3+ years of financial counseling experience. U.S. citizenship and fluent English; bilingual English/Spanish required if contract dictates. Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier2 investigation. Successful completion of the Congressionally Mandated Disclosure for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process. Certification: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) , Certified Financial Planner (CFP) , or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) . Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $58,440 – $93,500 (base salary). Eligible for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
