Hundley Whaley Director and Field Specialist in Agronomy

Location Albany, Missouri (serves DeKalb, Gentry, Harrison, Worth Counties in Northwest Region; additional statewide service as needed). Job Summary Assistant/Associate/Full Extension Professional with a 12‑month, ranked, non‑tenure track appointment, serving as the Director of Hundley‑Whaley Extension & Education Center and as a Field Specialist in Agronomy for an assigned four‑county region in northwest Missouri. Responsibilities Act as Director of Hundley‑Whaley Extension & Education Center: oversee daily operations, manage staff, maintain equipment, coordinate research and demonstration projects, secure external resources, prepare operations budget, and serve as the primary liaison with faculty, industry partners, and the farming community. Serve as a Field Specialist in Agronomy: develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs on soil testing, precision agriculture, crop production economics, pest and disease monitoring, weed and forage management, and other regional cropping systems; provide technical assistance to producers and community partners; collaborate with campus specialists on research projects; represent MU on county extension council meetings and statewide boards. Professional Expectations Engage with county extension councils, legislators, and stakeholders to identify educational needs, create annual plan‑of‑work, and provide monthly impact reports; attend at least one county council meeting per month. Participate in research, grant acquisition, and professional development; showcase MU research through field days, workshops, and publications; respond to natural disasters and emergencies with timely research‑based information. Maintain competence in communication, program delivery, volunteer management, grant writing, teamwork, and leadership; adhere to safety and compliance standards. Qualifications Earned master’s or Ph.D. in Agronomy, Plant Sciences, Crop Sciences, Soil Sciences or related field; demonstrated coursework in agronomy. Strong oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of crop, forage, soil, weed, insect, and plant disease management; experience in precision agriculture and extension program design. Experience with grant acquisition and collaboration with researchers and stakeholders. Valid Missouri driver’s license and reliable vehicle; willingness to travel throughout Missouri and occasionally out of state. Compensation Minimum starting salary of $70,000; final salary determined by qualifications and experience.
