Pay Range: $45-55/hour

School-Based Orientation & Mobility Specialist | Tumwater, WA | Part-Time

Hello, O&M Specialists! Ampersand Therapy is hiring a part-time Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist to support students with visual impairments in Tumwater Washington. We are a woman- and therapist-founded company that values collaboration and meaningful, student-centered work.

Position Details

• Location: Tumwater, WA
• Schedule: 2 days per week
• In-person, school-based role
• Provide evaluations, direct instruction, and consultation for students with visual impairments

Responsibilities

• Conduct O&M evaluations and identify students' short- and long-term needs.
• Teach students to travel safely and confidently in familiar and unfamiliar environments while building independence.
• Collaborate with teachers of students with visual impairments on functional vision assessments related to travel.
• Provide instruction and support aligned with each student's IEP.
• Consult with families, teachers, school staff, and peers on strategies that support student independence and safety.
• Monitor progress and maintain evaluation reports, IEP documentation, progress notes, and other required records.
• Provide training to school staff and families on students' O&M needs.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary school team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education; master's degree in Special Education preferred
• Valid Washington State Education Staff Associate certificate with the required Special Education endorsement and qualifications to serve as an O&M instructor
• Valid Washington State driver's license
• First Aid and CPR certification
• Ability to complete required criminal background clearance
• Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
