CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking an Engineer I to join our Highway & Rail Team in Columbia, SC , where you'll help deliver transportation solutions that connect communities and support economic vitality. From roadway improvements to rail infrastructure enhancements, you'll gain hands‑on experience working on projects that shape how people travel and how goods reach their destinations. What You'll Do: Assist with the planning, design, and development of highway and rail transportation projects Support senior engineers in preparing technical reports, design calculations, specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates Apply engineering principles, industry standards, and regulatory requirements to develop transportation solutions that enhance mobility and safety Participate in field visits and site assessments to gain hands‑on experience and develop a deeper understanding of transportation design and construction practices What You Bring: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required No experience required; however prior internships and/or relevant coursework are preferred Strong theoretical foundation and familiarity with engineering software (Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.) Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excellent communication skills and a desire to work in a collaborative team Participation in professional engineering society/organization preferred Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification a plus Why You'll Love It Here: Build your technical expertise through hands‑on experience across roadway, highway, and rail infrastructure projects Work alongside knowledgeable professionals who are invested in your growth and career development Enjoy a flexible, collaborative work environment with opportunities for field exposure and project variety Curious about the impactful work our Highway & Rail team is doing? Salary Range: $73,000 - $80,000 Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
