School Nurse Position

Position Goals: The school nurse plays a critical role in preventing illness, early detection of health issues, and improving the overall health of students. This position requires collaboration with school staff, families, and healthcare providers to support a safe and healthy educational environment.
Responsibilities of Kuumba Academy School Nurse include but are not limited to:
- Provide nursing care to both students and staff.
- Administer medication to students as requested by parents or physicians according to the medication administration protocol.
- Maintain a daily log of all student and staff visits to the nurse's office, and record communications with parents, staff, and community agencies.
- Ensure safe storage and accurate administration of medications.
- Maintain emergency information for students and staff.
- Lead health initiatives to promote a safe school environment.
- Act as a liaison between school personnel, families, and community health providers.
- Develop individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic conditions or disabilities.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and healthcare providers to address student health concerns.
- Educate students on health-related topics, including hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal health regulations and school policies.
- Monitor immunization records and ensure compliance with vaccination requirements.
- Maintain open communication with teachers, administration, and behavioral health staff.
Qualifications and Experience: Current RN license to practice in Delaware. Minimum of three years of experience as a registered nurse. Certification as required by the Department of Education. Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited program. Strong knowledge of child health issues and school health policies. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support student health needs. Previous experience in a school setting or with children.
Compensation: Salary range for this position is based on the teacher salary scale and is commensurate with experience.
