Aquatic Lifeguard Position

This position is responsible for assisting in operating and maintaining municipal aquatic facilities while maintaining a healthy and safe environment for public use. This role assists Lifeguard IIIs, Aquatic Facility Lead, and senior-level recreation supervisory staff with other work-related tasks.

Essential functions include serving as a lifeguard and professional rescuer, enforcing rules, inspecting the facility daily, serving as a front desk representative, answering telephone calls, resolving routine problems, ensuring patrons sign the mandatory liability waiver, demonstrating basic care and maintenance of aquatic facilities, performing daily walkthroughs, maintaining cleanliness, assisting Lifeguard III in administrative duties, providing leadership to seasonal employees, passing and maintaining a Vigilance Awareness Test, participating in training, working overtime or alternate hours, and being designated as Mission Critical.

Additional functions may include serving as a CPR instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, swim lesson instructor, attending monthly in-service training, performing professional rescuer duties, assisting in the creation and delivery of programs, assisting in special events, and assisting in public relations.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, minimum of one season or three months of lifeguard experience, a valid driver's license, a valid telephone number, passing and maintaining a Vigilance Awareness Test, current and valid American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED and First Aid certification, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor within six months, American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED certification within six months, passing physical examination, drug and alcohol related exams, legal background checks, transportation for a multi-work site schedule, availability for all shifts and variable schedules, and passing an elevated background check.

Knowledge includes various rescue methods, professional rescue standards, advanced first aid, Microsoft Office 365 applications, cash handling procedures, and care, upkeep, and preventative maintenance of aquatic facilities. Abilities include establishing effective working relationships, using critical thinking skills, using professional maturity, using problem-solving skills, demonstrating professional workplace habits, and maintaining physical fitness readiness.
