Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital currently has hospital-based veterinary internship opportunities at our Lexington, Saratoga and Wellington practices for the 2024-2025 internship year. We would love to help you start your career! About Us Rood & Riddle’s veterinary internship program was established in 1986 at our Lexington facility. The Saratoga and Wellington practices started internship programs in 2013 and 2017, respectively. The Lexington practice currently offers nine hospital and five ambulatory internship positions. Saratoga and Wellington offer three hospital internship positions at each practice. About the Internship Each available internship is a 53-week in-hospital internship with a primary focus on surgery (upper airway, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, urogenital), lameness, emergency medicine, internal medicine and anesthesia. Interns at the Lexington and Saratoga practices can obtain more experience in specific areas of interest due to a tailored rotation from January to May. The primary goal of each internship is to provide a strong foundation for application to a residency program or entrance into private practice. The busy caseload and number of clinicians provide diverse mentorship and a unique internship experience not available elsewhere. After-hours emergency duty is shared between specialists, and interns provide assistance to the surgeon, anesthesia and technical support after-hours. All treatments, including after-hours and holidays, are performed by technicians. Outgoing and incoming interns are staggered to provide overlap and experience as the incoming class gets settled and trained.
