Senior Backend Engineer

Salary: $180,000 - 200,000 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or another discipline.
• 3–6 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Professional experience at an AI-focused company or developing and shipping AI-powered products.
• Strong backend engineering experience designing and delivering production systems, APIs, and backend services.
• Hands-on experience building scalable data models, pipelines, and integrations.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and relational database architecture.
• Ability to independently own technical projects from concept through deployment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a small, fast-moving engineering environment.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship; this role is limited to U.S. citizens or Green Card holders.
• Ability to work onsite in New York City at least four days per week.
• Preferred: strong proficiency in Python; experience with production LLM applications, AI agents, agentic workflows, or conversational AI; familiarity with MCP, LLM APIs, and AI orchestration frameworks; experience evaluating AI models, working with NLP and unstructured data, or in an early-stage or venture-backed technology company; familiarity with backend observability, performance optimization, and infrastructure scalability; experience working directly with founders or senior technical leaders.

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems for our AI-powered SaaS platform.
• Build and optimize data models, pipelines, and integrations for large volumes of unstructured customer feedback.
• Develop APIs, backend services, and infrastructure that support AI-driven product capabilities.
• Design and manage relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
• Build and deploy generative AI and agentic workflows using LLMs, APIs, and emerging technologies.
• Evaluate and integrate AI models and tools based on performance, reliability, and business needs.
• Own engineering projects from initial design through production deployment.
• Develop internal tools and data management interfaces to improve operational efficiency.
• Implement monitoring and observability, and improve backend performance.
• Work with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to turn business needs into technical solutions.
• Identify ways to improve development processes, code quality, scalability, and maintainability.
• Provide technical support to customer-facing teams when needed.

Our AI-native platform analyzes millions of consumer feedback records from product reviews, social media, customer interactions, and other sources, helping globally recognized brands improve products, customer experiences, and business performance. We are hiring a full-time Senior Backend / AI Platform Engineer for our small, collaborative engineering team of approximately eight people in New York City. You will work closely with our technical leadership, including our co-founder and CTO, and have significant influence over our platform and product direction. The role offers exposure to generative AI, LLMs, agentic workflows, and advanced data processing. It is hybrid, with at least four days onsite each week. Compensation is $180,000–$200,000 in base salary plus 0.1% equity, subject to a four-year vesting schedule with a one-year cliff.
