A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SENIOR PROJECT DESIGNER

As a Senior Project Designer, you play a key role in our civil engineering company. You are tasked with designing complete sets of site development plans that include the site geometry, utilities, grading, and drainage as well as the erosion and sediment control. You do so while sticking close to our client's specifications and to our design standards. You also perform drainage calculations for slopes, sewer design, hydraulic systems, detention ponds, and more.

Working on projects for a variety of industries, you take each design from concept to construction documents by using your excellent skills in AutoCAD Civil 3D. In order to identify potential problems with a project, you analyze surveys and field notes among other materials. By anticipating issues in this way, you keep each project on time and within budget. A motivated self-starter, you complete your redlines and revisions as soon as they are called for and look at the task as an opportunity to perfect your work.

A team player, you collaborate with our project managers to keep them updated on your progress and to work out any challenges that arise. You also pitch in on the design staff wherever you're needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques and procedures while using judgement when making minor adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specific objectives and require investigation of limited number of variables. Receives instructions on specific objectives, complex features, and possible solutions. Assistance given for unusual problems and normally reviewed for application of sound professional judgement. Performs work involving conventional plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment with relatively few complex features for which there are few precedents. May be assisted by engineers or technicians and be responsible for a single phase of a project.
• Monitors individual project budgets to ensure labor and expense costs are within forecasted project budget. Follows CEI accounting processes including pre-billing forms, review of final invoices, and addressing client and sub-contractor invoice questions. Reviews activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine project's progress in terms of timeline, costs, and client expectations.
• Prepares or updates reports, specifications, preliminary hydrology/drainage analysis, plans, plat design, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for civil or landscape projects.
• Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents including redline corrections for permitting and other uses. Follows CEI design standards when completing project assignments. Follows CEI Quality Control processes including the revision diary when completing project assignments.
• As directed, may communicate with clients, local agencies, peers, and other project team members to address plan changes, problems, and provide project status reports to involved parties. Attends regularly scheduled meetings and called ad-hoc meetings. Works with peers and supervisors in a manner that promotes team work and the overall success of the company as a whole.
• Identifies, seeks, and attends continuing education seminars and classes to receive additional knowledge and/or expertise or to meet licensure requirements.
• Provides training and development on an ongoing basis to CAD Technician, CAD Designer and Project Designer positions.
• Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SENIOR PROJECT DESIGNER

• Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc. Equivalent to a four year college degree, plus 5 years related experience and/or training, and 2 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1+ years of CAD design experience
• High proficiency with AutoCAD
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to occasionally travel overnight
