We offer flexible work scheduling and a full benefits package including medical insurance, vacation, paid holidays, and membership in the North Carolina retirement system.Examples Of DutiesInspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair municipal vehicles and equipment.Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, fluid checks, filter replacement, and scheduled servicing.Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and electrical systems.Perform brake, tire, battery, cooling-system, and exhaust-system repairs.Use diagnostic equipment, service manuals, and computerized systems to identify mechanical and electrical problems.Maintain and repair light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles such as trucks, vans, utility vehicles, and specialized equipment.Service heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, mowers, tractors, and other public-works machinery, as applicable.Conduct safety inspections and identify vehicles or equipment requiring repair before returning them to service.Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts, labor, mileage, and preventive maintenance.Order or recommend parts, supplies, and replacement components.Test-drive or operate vehicles and equipment after repairs to verify proper operation.Respond to breakdowns and perform roadside or field repairs when necessary.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and properly use shop tools and equipment.Follow applicable safety procedures, environmental regulations, and manufacturer specifications.Assist with fleet inventory, vehicle assignments, equipment tracking, and replacement recommendations.Communicate with supervisors and department personnel regarding vehicle condition, repair needs, and expected downtime.Perform other related duties as assigned.Typical QualificationsCompletion of high school supplemented by course work in automotive and electrical trade skills, and highly experienced in repairing automotive and power equipment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.Additional salary increases possible with approved certifications obtained.Special Requirements:Valid North Carolina driver's license.May require possession of a North Carolina vehicle inspection license within six months of employment.Supplemental InformationBackground records check, drug screen, and references will be required for the successful candidate.All applications will be considered but not necessarily interviewed.Resume in lieu of a completed application will not be accepted.Diplomas and degrees must be received from accredited institutions.We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and E-Verify ParticipantBenefitsScotland County offers a wide range of benefits, including healthcare, supplemental plans and retirement programs.Health We offer a high-deductible health plan with a $5000 deductible (Single). This program includes a Health Savings Account (HSA). Employee only coverage is completely funded by the County, PLUS the County contributes $1200 to the HSA annually.Dental Our dental plan provides for preventive services, such as cleanings each year, at 100%. There is a $25 deductible for other services. Basic services pays at 80% and other major services at 50%. The County contributes $14.47 per month for employee coverage.Voluntary Plans Employees may choose from a variety of plans arranged through Mark III Benefits. These include AFLAC Accident, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity plans; MetLife Group Cancer; MassMutual Whole Life; and Superior Vision plans. In addition we offer Short-term and Long-term disability.Life Insurance The County provides $10,000 Basic Life insurance for employees. An employee may choose to purchase additional voluntary term life insurance.Retirement Pension is offered through the N.C. Local Government Employees' Retirement System. Employees are required to contribute 6% of gross wages toward their account. The County also contributes at 14.40% (law enforcement 16.08%). 401(k) and 457 are supplemental retirement plans administered by Empower. For the 401(k) plan, employees contributing a minimum of 1% are eligible for the County contribution of 2.5% toward their account. Employees contributing at least 3% or greater are eligible for a County Contribution of 3%. Law Enforcement Officers receive a 5% County contribution. The 401(k) plan offers both pre-tax and Roth after-tax contributions. The 457 plan is tax-deferred with no minimum contribution requirements.Longevity Pay The County offers longevity pay to employees with at least 5 years of continuous service.
