General Description


The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance duties throughout the University campus.

Essential Job Duties


1. Maintain lawns, hedges and shrubs. Ensure grass along sidewalks, flower-beds, trees, and signs are trimmed. Remove litter and refuse. Prune, fertilize, and inspect lawns to ensure proper care.
2. Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools: riding and push mowers, string trimmers, edger's, blowers, sprayers, hedge shears, chainsaw, and high pressure washers.
3. Clean sidewalks, streets and other hard surfaces using backpack blowers, shovels, rakes and other equipment. Repair surfaces as required.
4. Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Apply herbicides and pesticides to grounds, walks/streets, trees, shrubs, and lawns to control plant diseases, weeds and insects.
5. Remove dirt, leaves and other debris from storm drain inlets and catch basins.

Additional Duties


Ensure lawns and shrubs are hydrated, flower beds are trimmed. Attend safety meetings and training classes. Assist with inventory control and security. Report and respond to emergency calls for grounds maintenance assistance. Dispose of hazardous materials.

  • Possess the physical ability to perform the duties of this position over a sustained period of time;
  • Ability to work safely in an environment containing chemicals, fertilizers, cleaning materials, dust and noise;
  • Normal tolerance of and not be allergic to common maintenance chemicals;
