General Technician - HEPA Technician

Job Description Overview Under the supervision of the Maintenance and Utilities Supervisor and in collaboration with the maintenance team leader, the HEPA Technician installs, maintains, tests, certifies, repairs, and troubleshoots HEPA filtration equipment to ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and regulatory standards. Responsibilities Perform HEPA certifications for Unidirectional Airflow Rooms/Hoods (UARH), Class I/II Biosafety Cabinets, Air Handler Units, and other HEPA‑filtered equipment. Conduct leak checks, velocity spot checks, non‑viable particle counts, airflow pattern tests, and other certification procedures per SOP. Verify equipment numbers and work order associations before certification tasks. Affix certification and defective tags according to procedure. Maintain and manage all equipment required for HEPA certifications and velocity spot checks. Perform corrective maintenance: repair, replace, or adjust equipment (e.g., filter replacements, structural repairs). Assist utilities technicians in troubleshooting and adjusting HVAC systems to maintain proper airflow. Monitor and measure pressure drops of HVAC filters and replace them as needed, following safety requirements. Use electronic data collection technology and EAM systems to record activities in a cGMP‑compliant manner. Communicate with supervisors and customers regarding equipment status, parts requirements, and other work matters. Participate in HAZOPS, waste walkthroughs, Kaizen events, and other safety/quality training initiatives. Prepare labor and material estimates, assist with scheduling and prioritization of work orders, and recommend spare‑part orders. Prepare safety permits and write, execute, and complete required documentation. Equipment Handled Aerosol Generator (Laskin nozzle or Thermal) Aerosol Photometer with scanning wand and probe Anemometer (Rotary Vane or Hot Wire) Balometer/Multimeter with VELGrid or Flow Hood Forward Light Scatter Particle Analyzer (Discrete Particle Counter or DPC) Tecnol Fluid Shield respirator, Oxygen sensor, and related safety devices Portable and fixed power tools, adhesives, sealants, ladders, chemical cleaning equipment, protective clothing, fall protection, scaffolding, two‑way radios Electronic/electric measuring devices and automation/robotics technology Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED. Validated HVAC/Refrigeration trade or community college program (minimum 650 hours), or equivalent military training. At least two (2) years of recent full‑time experience as a HEPA certification technician, including leak and velocity testing. Completion of a recognized HEPA certification training program is required. Special Skills or Abilities Ability to read HVAC drawings and mechanical schematics. Strong mechanical aptitude. Special Job Features Heavy lifting, work in heat, cold, dust, and confined spaces. Requirement for aseptic gowning, protective clothing, safety shoes, and glasses. Potential exposure to infectious agents and emergency call‑in duties. Must carry a pager or radio. Exposure to immunization requirements and flexible shift coverage.
