Pay Range Full‑time: $136,307 - $196,888 (variable pay based on production). The rate is determined by experience, skill level, and education and may vary by location and schedule. Job Purpose & Function The Chief of Staff manages the hospital to ensure the highest quality veterinary care, exceptional client service, associate engagement, and maximum productivity of the veterinary medical team. The role advocates for pets and their quality of life; builds long‑term bonding relationships with clients; contributes to the development and maintenance of the human‑pet bond; educates clients and hospital associates on all aspects of pet health. The Chief of Staff partners with the Practice Manager (if applicable) to operate an effective, productive veterinary medical team, ensure a safe and engaging hospital environment, and improve medical quality and business performance. Responsibilities Leadership Responsibilities (20‑30% of time): Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc.; partner with the Practice Manager to provide consistent high‑quality care and exceptional service; train the team on Banfield guidelines and supervise associates; oversee client education and resolve client issues; identify bottlenecks and remove barriers to medical operations; interview, select, train, develop, coach, mentor, discipline, and terminate hospital associates; lead and mentor Associate Veterinarians; establish development plans; create and maintain veterinarians’ schedules; communicate with associates, clients, field leadership, and Central Team Support; execute market objectives, goals, strategies, and measurements; participate in market‑level teams and initiatives; deliver financial results; ensure compliance with policies, laws, and regulations; other job duties as assigned. Associate Veterinarian Responsibilities (70‑80% of time): Establish trust and client compliance through preventive care, diagnostics, treatment plans, and follow‑up visits; perform evidence‑based medicine; maintain medical records; lead the hospital team through the daily schedule; provide exceptional service including preventative care, diagnosis, treatment, and surgery; promote safety; communicate treatment plans; resolve client concerns; and develop lasting client relationships. Stress Resilience – maintain a positive, calm demeanor under stress. Special Working Conditions Requires confidence around pets, more than 40 hours per week, weekends and evenings, moderate noise. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds; good hand‑eye coordination and visual acuity. Exposure to pets that may bite or scratch; occasional exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances. Some travel may be required. Requirements – Experience, Education, and Training Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent required. Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with the applicable state veterinary board. Two years clinical experience required. 1‑3 years of coaching and developing associate doctors required. Meets all required clinical competencies.
