Position Overview

The Alcoholism Rehab Assistant at United Health Services (UHS) supports adults in addiction recovery through hands-on patient care, therapeutic engagement, and safety-focused monitoring. This role assists with activities of daily living, patient rounding, and documentation that directly influence care outcomes in an inpatient behavioral health setting. Primary Department, Division, or Unit: M4 Inpatient Addiction Medicine (New Horizons), UHS Binghamton General Hospital

Work Shift and Schedule: This is a per diem position, which means you will work on an as needed, agreed upon basis. Working hours will be assigned by your manager. Compensation Range: $17.05 - $22.17 per hour, depending on experience

Essential Functions: Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs)—including hygiene, grooming, meals, and hydration—to promote comfort, dignity, and participation in treatment Measure and document clinical observations (vital signs, weight, intake/output) accurately and timely to support patient monitoring and clinical decision-making Perform patient rounding according to organizational standards to reinforce safety, therapeutic structure, and recovery-focused engagement Observe patient behavior and milieu activity and communicate relevant updates to the Charge Nurse to support early identification of concerns and appropriate interventions Provide recovery-oriented support and therapeutic engagement by modeling healthy coping strategies and reinforcing program philosophy with patients and families Facilitate patient discussion groups related to key steps in recovery as assigned, supporting peer connection and treatment participation Complete documentation (progress notes and therapeutic environment flow sheets) after completing required in-services, under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, to ensure accurate and compliant records Scope and Impact: Contribute to patient safety and unit stability by maintaining consistent presence, using supportive communication, and reinforcing structured routines in a fast-paced care setting Escalate changes in patient condition or safety concerns promptly to the Charge Nurse, supporting timely clinical evaluation and continuity of care Support a therapeutic environment by assisting with patient engagement throughout the shift, helping reduce barriers to participation in recovery activities Maintain a clean, organized unit environment by completing assigned housekeeping tasks (e.g., wiping surfaces, emptying waste, refrigerator defrosting) to support infection prevention and patient experience Provide team support for clinical workflow by filing, organizing charts, and preparing admission/transfer/discharge documentation to sustain unit efficiency and readiness Compliance and Professional: Protect patient privacy and confidentiality by following HIPAA requirements and using appropriate discretion in all verbal, written, and electronic communications Adhere to infection prevention and patient safety standards including hand hygiene, environmental cleaning expectations, and required personal protective equipment (PPE) use per organizational policy Complete required training, in-services, and competency validations within established timelines, including documentation standards for progress notes and therapeutic environment flow sheets Use professional, respectful communication and boundaries to support a recovery-focused, trauma-informed environment for patients and families Perform duties in accordance with established escalation pathways and work under the direction of nursing leadership to ensure safe, consistent care delivery Safeguard sensitive data by following established security policies and procedures, using systems responsibly, and promptly reporting potential security incidents, risks, or policy violations As applicable to your role, support cybersecurity and data protection requirements throughout the supplier lifecycle by coordinating vendor risk assessments, monitoring third-party compliance, and promptly reporting identified supply chain or cybersecurity risks Additional Expectations: Promote a culture of connection and belonging by collaborating with colleagues and contributing to a supportive team environment where every connection matters Accept additional responsibilities assigned to meet patient care needs and support overall unit operations Demonstrate UHS Values of Compassion, Trust, Respect, Teamwork, and Innovation in all daily work and interactions Execute responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations Perform additional responsibilities as required to meet department and organizational needs Position Qualifications

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred: Up to 1 year of direct experience performing the exact or very similar duties required by the job within the same role or function Up to 1 year of customer/patient-facing experience directly interacting and communicating with the public Up to 1 year of technical/systems experience using specialized tools, software, or equipment required for the role Up to 1 year of experience in the same work environment or setting (hospital, practice, department/division) ----- About United Health Services
