Psychiatric Technician - Child/Adolescent

Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Technician provides direct care and clinical support to child and adolescent in-patient psychiatric patients. This role involves assisting with daily living activities, social and psychiatric rehabilitation, effective communication with patients, and ensuring access to required services. The Psychiatric Technician collaborates closely with the nursing team, participates in patient rounds and group therapy sessions, and monitors patient status to report any changes to the Registered Nurse. Responsibilities:

• Provide direct care to child and adolescent psychiatric patients, assisting with daily living and rehabilitation activities.
• Communicate effectively with patients to support their psychiatric and social needs.
• Ensure patients have access to required clinical and support services.
• Observe and report any changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse promptly.
• Participate in patient rounds and group therapy sessions as directed.
• Support the interdisciplinary team in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum of 2 years recent experience as a Psychiatric Technician or in a related role.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Associate's degree in Psychology or Sociology.
• Experience working with children and adolescents aged 8 to 18 years.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in an inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health setting.
• Additional certifications or training related to psychiatric care or child/adolescent mental health.

Special Considerations:

• Work involves rotating shifts including day, evening, and night shifts.
• Holiday and weekend work required.
• On-call and call-back duties as per unit needs.
• Must be willing to obtain TB skin test if required.

Scheduling:

• Rotating shifts covering day, evening, and night hours.
• Schedule includes holidays and weekends.
• Shift assignments determined by unit staffing needs.
