Endocrinology Nurse Practitioner

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America's heartland. This is a new position added to support patients with osteoporosis management. The Endocrinology Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to patients with endocrine disorders such as diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, adrenal and pituitary disorders, and metabolic conditions. The NP works collaboratively with endocrinologists and healthcare teams to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care, emphasizing patient education, disease management, and prevention.

The NP conducts comprehensive patient assessments, including history-taking, physical exams, and review of diagnostic tests. Diagnoses and manages acute and chronic endocrine disorders. Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized treatment plans. Prescribes medications and orders diagnostic tests as per scope of practice and state regulations. Monitors patient progress and adjusts treatment plans accordingly. Provides patient education on disease processes, medication management, lifestyle modifications, and self-care techniques. Collaborates with physicians, dietitians, diabetes educators, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. Maintains accurate and timely medical records and documentation. Participates in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with advances in endocrinology. Facilitates referrals to specialists or community resources as needed. Supports research activities or clinical trials, if applicable.

Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Certification in Diabetes Education (CDE) or experience in diabetes management is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of endocrine disorders, pathophysiology, and treatment modalities. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC). Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP) Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
