Lab Associate II - Core Lab

Overview This position supports the largest laboratory in the BJC system. The Core Lab processes high volumes of specimens from one of the most complex patient populations in the region. This is NOT a phlebotomy position. This is a specimen processing position. Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center. Schedule Full‑Time | 40 hours per week Monday – Friday, rotating weekends & holidays 7:00 am – 3:30 pm Benefits eligible Key Responsibilities Receive, label, and process incoming specimens Route specimens to appropriate testing departments (Chemistry/Hematology) Identify and resolve specimen discrepancies Maintain accurate electronic documentation and support turnaround time goals in a high‑volume environment Additional Responsibilities Interpret physician orders and order tests in appropriate system Perform phlebotomy, positive patient identification, and proper collection and specimen integrity Sort and process specimens received by the laboratory and handle all specimens proficiently Coordinate simultaneous tasks accurately, including STAT orders and workload fluctuations, prioritizing work to meet turnaround times Perform registration, inventory maintenance, and other duties as assigned Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or GED (Education) No experience required (Experience) No experience required (Supervisor Experience) Preferred Requirements Associate's Degree (Education) 2–5 years in a laboratory or phlebotomy setting (Experience) 2 years of supervisory experience (Supervisor Experience) Licenses & Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) Phlebotomy certification Benefits At BJC we’re committed to providing you and your family with benefits and resources to help you manage your physical, emotional, social and financial well‑being.
