Behavior Intervention Specialist

Under the direction of the Behavior Coordinator, the Behavior Intervention Specialist is responsible for the needs of the individuals for psychological services residing in Mercy Home's Programs.

Facilitate and actively participate in the delivery of psycho-social and health-related services for people in our programs. Represents the Agency by promoting and modeling the mission and core values of the Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Home.

Requirements:

  • MA in Clinical or Treatment field of Psychology, Social Work, School Psychology or applied psychology as it relates to human development & clinical interventions & documented training in assessment techniques & behavior support plan development OR
  • MA Degree in behavior analysis & a national board certification in behavior analysis OR
  • Mental Health Counseling and minimum 5 yrs of experience working directly with IDD population including development, implementation & monitoring of behavior support plans OR
  • BA Degree in human services field & provided behavioral services for an agency in the OPWDD field continuously since December 31, 2012 & working toward a MA Degree.
  • New York State Valid and Unrestricted NYS is required.
  • Participate in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings as scheduled by the Residence Manager on a semiannual, annual, and as-needed basis.
  • Provide psychological services in our programs & participate in day program meetings.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, in-services related to psychology, and developmental disabilities.
  • Prepare reports needed for psychiatric conferences.
  • Act as the liaison between the psychiatrist and residential program.
  • Complete functional assessments and medication management plans.
  • Complete observations of program and report back to the IDT committee.
  • Develop behavior support plans to address the behavioral needs identified by the IDT for people served.
  • Track progress on behavioral goals and summarize data.
  • Train, observe and assist staff in the application of behavioral support plans.
  • Complete psychological assessments, as needed & behavior support plans and ensure that they meet the needs of each individual we serve.
  • Actively participate in HRC meeting, IRC meeting, Admission/Discharge meetings.
  • Provides crisis intervention, individual or group counseling, where appropriate
  • Flexibility required including evening and/or weekend schedules, be available for community/agency events.
  • Co-facilitate a Self-help/Self Advocacy Group, or other groups as directed
  • Complete other tasks as designated by departmental needs.

DAYS: Monday-Friday (35+ hours per week) DAYS/LOCATION WILL VARY BASED ON AGENCY NEEDS
