About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Surgical Specialty Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience; step-down/PCU experience preferred License: Current RN License issued by the relevant state board of nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association Must-Have: Must have acute care surgical floor experience Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans during their hospital stay and at discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. The role involves caring for post-surgical patients and those being evaluated for transplants. Patients require close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication delivery. Experience in a mixed step-down and acute care unit is preferred. Preceptor and charge experience are preferred. Knowledge of nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is essential. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services. Maintains good working relationships with other employees. Good verbal and written communication skills are important. Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors is required. Some computer skills are necessary.
