The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System serves over 230,000 veterans in the Las Vegas metropolitan area and is part of the VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21). The main medical center, located at 6900 N. Pecos Road in North Las Vegas, is a state-of-the-art facility offering comprehensive medical, surgical, and mental health services. The Radiology Service features advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities including CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology. Responsibilities
- Operate a full range of computerized, digital, and direct radiographic equipment including portable units, C-arm units, and bone density equipment to perform general and specialized diagnostic procedures
- Independently determine appropriate technical factors and modify standard procedures or positions as needed to accommodate patient condition or examination requirements
- Perform fluoroscopic procedures including upper and lower GI studies, myelography, arthrography, and other specialized examinations under radiologist direction
- Prepare and administer contrast materials orally, by enema, or intravenously; maintain competency in venipuncture and Point-of-Care Testing
- Perform radiographic examinations at bedside and in operating rooms using portable X-ray units and mobile C-arm fluoroscopy
- Utilize PACS and digital imaging systems to archive, validate, and transmit images for radiologic interpretation
- Practice radiation safety and adhere to ALARA principles; participate in yearly inspections of lead personal protective equipment
- Review radiology requests for technical soundness, accuracy, and conformity to policy; ensure proper patient identification throughout all procedures
- Set up and adjust accessory equipment; prepare sterile fields for procedures requiring injectable contrast or interventional techniques
- Perform administrative duties including scheduling, patient check-in/out, and file room operations
Qualifications
- Current ARRT registration in Radiography (R)
- Current BLS/BCLS certification (American Heart Association or equivalent)
- Minimum 1 year of diagnostic radiologic technologist experience in a hospital or clinical setting
- Proficiency with digital radiography, computed radiography, fluoroscopy, and PACS systems
- Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, radiation safety, and contrast administration protocols
- VA or federal healthcare experience preferred but not required
Monday Friday, 7:30 AM 4:00 PM. Overtime and on-call may be required as assigned.
