Job Description
ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled ICU Registered Nurse to provide professional nursing care for acutely and critically ill patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies, procedures, and philosophy. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide direct observation of patients, assisting nursing staff in creating and maintaining a safe environment.
• Develop individualized patient care plans based on the assessment and evaluation of patient needs.
• Document health records accurately and efficiently, maintaining compliance with established protocols.
• Maintain expertise in critical care nursing through continuing education and active participation in department meetings.
• Recognize and respond promptly to adverse signs and emergency situations, implementing life-saving procedures as needed.
• Monitor specialized equipment, interpreting and recording electronic displays such as cardiac rhythms and vital signs.
• Delegate tasks and supervise nursing support staff according to licensure standards.
• Serve as a team leader and provide guidance to ancillary staff when assigned.
• Ensure compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) standards while on duty.
• Contribute to patient experience by providing high-quality, patient-centered care with dignity and respect.
• Uphold infection prevention standards within the patient care environment.
• Collaborate with medical and nursing staff to promote teamwork within the ICU.
• Participate in patient transportation and procedures as needed, adhering to hospital policies.
• Focus on patient safety and quality of care, advocating for patient needs and ensuring positive outcomes.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients during various stages of care.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills and protect patient confidentiality.
• Administer medications in accordance with provider orders or approved protocols.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients, complying with safety regulations.
• Assume leadership during emergency situations, including participation in code blue and rapid response calls.
• Actively engage in professional growth and participate in department meetings.
• Assist with inventory management and identify opportunities for process improvement.
• Provide Navajo interpretation for patients as needed.
• Adapt to changes in the work environment and support nursing care across various units.

Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:

• Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to nursing practice.
• Familiarity with infection control protocols and patient care standards.
• Ability to employ critical thinking skills in clinical decision-making.
• Proficiency in utilizing computer systems and software, including Microsoft applications.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Fluency in Navajo language and familiarity with the Navajo culture is a plus.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

This position requires regular standing, walking, crouching, and occasional sitting, with the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work is typically performed in a hospital environment, which may involve exposure to hazardous materials requiring adherence to safety precautions.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate Degree in Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred.
• Two years of clinical experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is required.
• Specialty certifications are required; CCRN certification is mandatory, and TNCC certification is recommended.
• Valid and unrestricted nursing license from the state of Arizona or another compact state.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• NRP certification will be required within six months of hire.
• Must successfully pass a background investigation and Employee Health requirements.
