Biometrics (Fingerprint) Technician - On Call

Opportunity This is an opportunity to work with the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) in meeting the mission of administering the nation’s lawful immigration system. Job Description As a Biometric Technician (BT) you will be responsible for supporting the mission of a government program located in Portland, OR. This position works as part of a dynamic team of professionals assisting the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) Application Support Center (ASC) operations. Amentum provides all required job training for qualified candidates. This position is a casual on‑call team member. On‑call employees are expected to be available Monday through Friday from 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM for substitute coverage as needed at the site. Hours are not guaranteed and the position is an "as needed" basis, fitting candidates who desire flexibility and supplemental income. Primary Responsibilities Complete biometrics registration for applicants seeking legal immigration to the United States. Ensure all who enter the ASC are approved applicants and visitors while providing crowd control and assisting staff in enforcing ASC rules and policies. Provide front‑line customer service as representatives of Amentum and on behalf of the United States Government. Perform quality biometrics processing to include capturing electronic fingerprints, photographs, and signatures within established program‑wide processing times. Screen applicants entering the facility to ensure they have a valid appointment notice and identification allowing their entry into the ASC. Utilize crowd control barriers to ensure a safe and organized entry into the facility. Visually inspect applicants and their belongings prior to allowing entry into the facility, asking questions about illness during pandemics or other health crises. Conduct periodic facility checks (both interior and exterior) and report any concerns to the Site Supervisor. Assist the Site Supervisor and/or government Immigration Service Officer in calling local law enforcement or first responders when necessary. Manage and complete administrative paperwork such as tracking processing time, reconciling biometrics captured, maintaining a visitor control log for non‑applicants, signing off on facility checks, and other duties as needed. Safeguarding all areas where Personal Identifiable Information (PII) is vulnerable, including paperwork, identifications, electronic biometric data, and reports. Required Qualifications Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location. A High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be able to speak and write in English. Ability to stand upright on one’s feet for scheduled shift duration, excluding meals and breaks. Ability to hold and grasp applicant’s hands to obtain quality fingerprints. Ability to work in a high‑paced environment with the public. Ability to type and use basic computer skills. Successful completion of the biometrics training and certification within sixty days. Desired Skills Ability to speak a foreign language.
