Specimen Technician

Job Overview

Pay Range: $15.19hr - $20.19hr

Requirement/Must Have

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Basic understanding of computers.
• Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime as required.
• Strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment.
• Ability to adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility.
• Adherence to safety and compliance policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department including A-station, presort, and imaging.
• Pick up and deliver processed specimens to the laboratory.
• Perform centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens.
• Ensure all functions are performed with accuracy and in a timely manner.
• Learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered.
• Maintain compliance regulations related to test ordering.
• Work in a biohazard environment practicing established safety habits.
• Keep work area neat and clean.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.

Nice To Have

• Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
• Previous laboratory experience preferred.
• Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
• Previous hospital laboratory experience.
• Previous experience in a production environment.
