Histotechnologist

Job Summary and Responsibilities As a Histotechnologist, you will be responsible for performing complex histological clinical laboratory procedures on patient specimens under the direction of the Histotechnologist Lead, Medical Director, and Director of Laboratory Services. Daily, you will accurately process, analyze, and report all ordered tests in a timely manner for patient diagnosis and treatment. This includes equipment calibration and meticulous documentation. You will organize your workload, maintain professional and safe conduct, and foster positive relationships with staff, departments, physicians, and peers. Success in this role requires exceptional technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, a commitment to accuracy and patient safety, strong organizational skills, and collaborative work within a complex laboratory environment. Essential Functions Receives, accession as required, and prepares tissues and other biological materials using accepted histological techniques; performs proper labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and coverslipping. Prepares and evaluates stains, reagents, and solutions necessary for slide preparation following established policies and procedures. Ability to assess and make decisions for proper handling and processing of specimens with minimal or no guidance. Evaluates complex and difficult samples to determine suitable methods of preparation and staining. Monitor technical aspects of the department, and is a resource for technical information. Participates in the Performance Improvement program. Job Requirements Required Education and Experience Option 1: Bachelor Degree with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry (must include both), AND successful completion of an accredited Histotechnology program. Option 2: Bachelor Degree with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry (must include both), AND one year full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining.
