Senior Pastor - Fellowship Bible Church

Mission & Vision Our mission is to partner with God in transforming people into the likeness of Jesus Christ. (Meeting people where they are. Taking people where God wants to go.) To carry out this mission, Fellowship Bible Church is committed to glorify God by the intentional pursuit of equipping every FBC member for biblical worship, discipleship, outreach (local and global), fellowship and service. Senior Pastor Overview General Overview of the Senior Pastor Ministry. This current role has four primary emphases: As an Elder: The candidate must meet the doctrinal, moral and spiritual qualifications to be an elder and serve equally with the other active elders. Teaching and Discipleship: The primary Sunday morning speaker must consistently engage audience interest, promote life‑transformation, and demonstrate biblical faithfulness with a depth of insight that reflects a healthy relationship with God and people. Community Impact: The candidate must have the energy, ability and desire to mobilize the people of FBC in serving and evangelizing the surrounding community. Administration, Supervision and Management: The candidate oversees both the office and the church staff. Responsibilities as an Elder Determine God‑inspired vision and direction to establish annual ministry initiatives for the overall ministry of FBC. Coordinate the preparation of the annual budget with the deacons. Set an example of servant leadership and spiritual maturity marked by the fruit of the Spirit in attitude, conduct and relationships. Engage faithfully in prayer for the spiritual health of FBC leaders and ministries. Shape the culture of the church around the vision by ensuring that leaders are aligned with and have the resources to execute God’s vision. Guard the ministry environment to ensure it is doctrinally sound, team‑oriented and pursues transformed lives—not merely delivering accurate content. Shepherd the flock, responding quickly to the multiple needs of the congregation: prayer, counseling, visitation, weddings, funerals, baptism, etc. Arrange for Discovery Class to be offered at least twice per year. Help members discover and use their God‑given talents and gifts. Develop and equip new deacons and elders from the body. Serve as part of the Nominating Committee. Oversee FBC ministries. Provide teaching and discipling ministry leadership. Preaching and Teaching Create a preaching calendar with biblical references and sermon ideas for at least three months in advance, based upon God’s leading, input from church leaders and the needs of people in the church. Prepare and present original expository biblical messages (topical or book) to help the people of FBC be transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ. Employ appropriate technology to enhance speaking and overall ministry. Although the candidate is the primary Sunday morning speaker, arrange for guest preachers when not preaching and seek to raise up other gifted and equipped teachers from within the body, using the annual budget for outside speakers when appropriate. Model and mobilize FBC’s community impact. Community Engagement Lead and train the body to make disciples where they live, work, learn, and play. Become personally involved in some local community organization (not necessarily Christian). The church will cover dues or expenses for this elder‑approved activity. Work with ministry team leaders to identify and engage local opportunities to see the gospel reach our community. Develop practical ministry vehicles for our body to engage with the community. Administration, Supervision and Management Hire staff as needed with elder oversight. The Senior Pastor may, for cause, dismiss staff without board approval. Oversee the office and staff of the church. Current part‑time staff include Childcare Director, Communications Coordinator, Financial Secretary, Learning Center Director, Youth Director, and Worship Leader. Possess good computer skills, be competent with standard office software, and be willing to learn and use PowerChurch. Meet personally on a regular basis to encourage, pray with, direct and review staff so they flourish in their respective roles. Ensure through delegation or personal action that the FBC office runs smoothly and professionally, including: answering phone calls, accurately posting financial transactions, submitting monthly finance reports to the elders, keeping database and church records updated, preparing weekly eNews and Sunday bulletin, maintaining church calendar and facility scheduling, and contributing to the church website and social media. Participate in ongoing personal and professional development. Spiritual Growth and Leadership Development Engage in regular reading, studying the Scriptures and praying for personal spiritual growth. Read widely in other works—both Christian and non‑Christian. Lead or participate in a small group regularly. Work with elders to identify areas of personal, preaching and leadership growth. Develop an intentional plan with measurable steps for growth in these key areas. Meet regularly with outside pastors and ministry leaders for mutual encouragement. Work Schedule A full‑time role: the Senior Pastor should put forth no less effort than the full‑time employees and expects a normal office work week of at least forty hours. Maintain an office at the church with hours agreed upon with elders and communicated to the congregation. Allow one regular full day off each week during which no paid FBC ministry duties are performed. Attend most church‑wide events, though not all are required or necessarily beneficial. Attend all regular and special elder meetings. Non‑emergency absences are cleared with the Board Chairman. FBC Senior/Teaching Pastor – Qualifications & Expectations Education & Experience Graduate theological degree required (M.Div. or Th.M. preferred) from an ATS‑accredited seminary or graduate school. Ordained by a doctrinally aligned local church. Minimum three years of pastoral staff experience in an elder‑led church, or an equivalent role. Exceptional recent, ordained graduates with outstanding references will also be considered. Demonstrated commitment to and active involvement in cross‑cultural missions. Demonstrated commitment to and active practice of personal evangelism. Proven awareness of generational differences, shifting cultural dynamics, and evolving worldviews. Character Actively growing disciple with a clear testimony of salvation and ongoing sanctification. Model integrity, honesty, transparency, and moment‑by‑moment dependence on God. Maintain a consistent and effective personal devotional life. Demonstrably meet the biblical qualifications for an elder (1 Timothy 3; Titus 1). Cultivate a healthy family culture and intentionally disciple others in doing the same. Doctrine & Beliefs Affirm the FBC Doctrinal Statement, elder‑rule governance, the FBC Constitution, and all Elder Position Statements without reservation. Fully articulate and defend the FBC Doctrinal Statement. Leadership & Philosophy of Ministry Future‑oriented leadership style with a proven capacity to initiate, create, equip, and develop while valuing elder‑unity and shared authority. Track record of translating vision into concrete, sustainable reality. Commitment to identifying and developing multiplying leaders according to their unique spiritual gifts. Energetic team builder who leads, plays well with others, and yields to group consensus when appropriate. Deep conviction regarding the role of small groups in spiritual formation and community transformation. Strong commitment to cross‑cultural missions engagement, both locally and globally.
