Job Title: CNC Machinist Job Description

The CNC Machinist sets up and operates CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, and surface grinders, to manufacture precision parts for airplane cargo systems. This role involves interpreting technical drawings and specifications, performing accurate measurements and inspections, and ensuring all components meet strict tolerances and quality standards. The CNC Machinist also selects appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds, conducts routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, and works closely with engineers and team members to resolve production issues and continuously improve machining processes while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC machine tools such as lathes, mills, and surface grinders to produce precision parts for airplane cargo systems.

• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications, including GD&T symbols, datums, and geometric tolerancing.

• Perform inspections and measurements on finished parts to verify that all dimensions and tolerances meet required quality standards.

• Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds based on material, part design, and job requirements.

• Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on CNC machines and related equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation.

• Monitor machining operations and make necessary adjustments to programs, tooling, and setups to optimize part quality and production efficiency.

• Identify, report, and help resolve production and machining issues by collaborating with engineers and other team members.

• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area, following all safety regulations and reporting any faulty equipment or unusual conditions.

• Follow established procedures and work instructions to ensure consistent quality and compliance with internal and external standards.

• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by suggesting and implementing ideas to enhance machining processes and workflow.

Essential Skills

• Proven ability to set up and operate CNC lathes, mills, and surface grinders in a production or manufacturing environment.

• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints, including GD&T symbols, datums, and geometric tolerancing.

• Experience performing precise inspections and measurements using appropriate measuring tools to verify part dimensions and tolerances.

• Hands-on experience conducting routine maintenance and minor repairs on CNC machine tools and related equipment.

• Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, plus four years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience with horizontal machining centers and vertical machines (preferred).

• Experience with CNC milling and turning operations (a plus).

• Technical school or college training in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field.

• Prior experience working with airplane or aerospace components is beneficial.

• Familiarity with process improvement methodologies and continuous improvement practices.

• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and production schedules.

• Strong attention to detail and focus on quality in a precision manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

This role takes place in a manufacturing environment where you regularly sit and use your hands to handle or feel components and tools, and frequently stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, and kneel during machine setup and operation. You communicate with team members and supervisors, requiring the ability to talk and hear clearly in a production setting. The position requires regularly lifting and moving up to 10 pounds, frequently lifting and moving up to 25 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lifting and moving up to 50 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include close vision for detailed inspection work, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to monitor machines and verify part quality throughout the shift.

This is a Permanent position based out of Goldsboro, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $90000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
