The position also supports the Project Support Engineer by performing data compilation, railroad coordination, and preparing railroad agreements associated with highway improvement projects. Essential Functions Performs annual railroad grade crossing inspections. Supervises and inspects the construction of railroad grade crossing improvement projects. Furnishes highway plans and other related data to railroad companies for the preparation of grade crossing improvement plans and estimates. Performs railroad coordination as needed for state highway improvement projects. Prepares railroad agreements for flaggers, inspections, and engineering reviews. Reviews and processes railroad invoices for payment. Compiles and maintains files and status pertaining to railroad coordination, agreements, and the railroad safety program. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre‑engineering, or a job‑related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR Seven years of engineering experience. Preferred Qualifications Strong working knowledge of railroad and highway planning, design, and construction techniques. Strong judgment, communication, and planning skills. Working knowledge of electronic surveying and construction inspection. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, MicroStation, and Geographic Information System (GIS). Conditions of Employment Valid driver’s license. Extensive districtwide travel including occasional overnight stays. Successful completion of a background screening.
