Transition Technician SPED WORKS

Overview Position Title: Transition Technician – SPED/WORKS Department: Special Education Supervisor: Transition Coordinator / WORKS Teacher / WORKS OT Term of Employment: 9 months – 37.5 hrs/wk Salary Classification: 15 Job Summary The job of Transition Technician/WORKS is performed to provide enhanced Transition from School to Work (TSW) services, in collaboration with the transition teacher and other providers, to students who are clients of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR). This includes coordinating and executing evidence-based job coaching strategies designed to enhance work potential and maximize employability skills for students with developmental disabilities so they can pursue integrated work opportunities (with ongoing support/services from VR) after graduation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Contribute to the process of planning and preparing lessons, internships, and other learning experiences Assist students to engage in learning activities and complete assignments Facilitate pre-designed lessons/activities in class or community (1:1 or small groups) Model appropriate workplace skills and job tasks in simulated or real-world settings Use pre-determined inventories, checklists, and assessments to identify student learning style, interests, preferences, strengths and needs Transport students to and from in-district and community-based work sites Work with supervisors and employees to ensure a mutual understanding of expectations for students Coach and supervise students in site-specific workplace behaviors, job tasks, and safety awareness Develop tools and resources to facilitate the application of learned skills and maximize performance Employ a gradual release of responsibility framework to foster independence in class and at work Contribute to, model, and reinforce independent living skills that contribute to work readiness Use designated tools to monitor, assess, report, and reflect on student progress Complete mandatory documentation accurately and on time Maintain positive and professional relationships with all stakeholders Promote program by providing details and information about the purpose, process, and payoff (benefits) Collaborate with and exchange information with home school providers Arrange VR-TSW meetings including mentor sessions, IPE review/sign, progress review, and senior exit Attend all trainings, meetings, and professional learning activities offered by Peoria, RSA, and/or ADE Follow district and departmental policies and procedures and adhere to guidance given by certified staff and supervisors regarding workplace expectations and instructional practices Other duties as assigned by Transition Coordinator and/or Transition Strategist Knowledge and Skills General knowledge of state and federal labor laws General knowledge of laws pertaining to special education and the rights of employees with disabilities General knowledge of methods/techniques for teaching life skills to students with disabilities General knowledge of agencies/organizations that provide services to youth/adults with disabilities Skill in operating a computer using common Microsoft applications Skill in collecting/managing data (digitally or on paper) and protecting confidential records Skill in accepting and providing feedback to improve workplace skills in class and community Skill in staying organized, being on time, prioritizing tasks, and meeting due dates/deadlines Able to listen, read, and interpret information spoken or written in English Able to speak and write clearly and concisely in English with good grammar Able to present information verbally in 1:1 and small groups (15-20 people) Able to modify/adapt communication strategies to match different ability levels and styles Able to establish and maintain professional working relationships with all stakeholders Able to work autonomously without direct supervision Able to adapt and change routines/activities quickly as situations arrive Minimum Qualifications Applicant must have a regular high school diploma or G.E.D.; current Arizona Driver's License; current Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card; and at least 1 year experience working with youth between the ages of 14-22. Other Requirements Will be required to drive a district van or AV bus to transport students in the community Will be required to take/pass an online driving class and be approved for insurability May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies/materials weighing up to 20 pounds May be required to assist with daily living skills and transfer of students with mobility limitations May be required to start earlier or leave later than normal working hours #J-18808-Ljbffr Peoria Unified School District
